Millions of Octopus Energy customers could benefit from free electricity hours at weekends this winter under an extended rewards scheme. The programme gives eligible households free power in exchange for reducing their electricity use during selected weekday sessions.

Free Electricity Hours Extended Through February

Octopus Energy has extended its Happy Hours programme until Valentine’s Day, allowing eligible customers to exchange rewards for free electricity hours at weekends.

The scheme has also been expanded to include Saturday saving sessions. Customers earn tokens when they successfully reduce their electricity consumption during qualifying weekday sessions. These tokens can then be exchanged for free electricity hours.

How The Scheme Works

Customers taking part in a weekday Saving Session receive a token when they meet the requirements. Typically, two tokens can be exchanged for one free electricity hour during a weekend Happy Hour.

The exact availability of free hours depends on the sessions organised by Octopus and the tokens earned by each household.

Who Can Take Part?

There are several requirements for customers who want to join the programme.

You must: Be an Octopus Energy customer, Be registered for the Octoplus rewards programme, Have a working smart meter, Be signed up to Savings Sessions.

The scheme is therefore not available to every household automatically.

Eight Million Hours Of Free Power Already Given

The programme has attracted substantial participation since its launch. Almost 800,000 households took part when the offer was first introduced during the summer’s solar eclipse.

Octopus says it has since provided more than eight million hours of free electricity, with a total value of more than £1.7 million.

Octopus Says The Scheme Will Continue Through Winter

Rebecca Dibb-Simkin, chief customer officer at Octopus Energy, said customers had responded strongly to the Happy Hours programme.

The company said extending the scheme through the colder months would give participating households more chances to earn free electricity while helping manage energy consumption.

The extension covers the winter period and runs until February 14.

Energy Bills Remain A Concern For Households

The extension comes as households continue to face pressure from energy costs. Octopus says its programme is intended to help participating customers reduce their electricity costs while shifting some consumption away from periods of higher demand.

For eligible households, the amount of free electricity available will depend on participation in the weekday Saving Sessions and the number of tokens earned.
