Halifax Warns Customers To Act Today Before Banking App Access Ends

The transition has been under way since 5 October, with customers being moved to the Lloyds platform in stages. Although the Halifax app is scheduled to close permanently at the end of October, some users have been instructed to switch earlier. The bank says existing accounts and payment arrangements will remain unchanged.

Halifax Customers Receive Warning As App Closure Approaches

Customers received notifications through the Halifax app on Wednesday, 21 October, instructing them to complete their move to Lloyds that day. The message warned that access to the existing service would close the following morning.

According to The Sun, the notification stated: “You need to move to the Lloyds app today so you’re set up and ready to manage your accounts.” It added: “Access to the Halifax app will close from tomorrow. It only takes a minute.”

The warning follows an earlier communication explaining that the gradual withdrawal of the Halifax app would begin on 5 October. Lloyds Banking Group has confirmed that the service will be discontinued permanently by the end of the month.

A spokesperson for the banking group said: “We’re encouraging some customers to move to the Lloyds app ahead of time, where they can continue managing their banking seamlessly – most customers have already made the move over.” The spokesperson added: “Our Halifax app will close for good at the end of the month.”

Not every customer is being transferred simultaneously. Those who have not received an invitation to switch are expected to be contacted when their accounts are ready to move. Customers who have received instructions can begin the process through their existing Halifax app. They will then be directed to the Lloyds platform, where they can complete the transition using their existing banking credentials.

What the Lloyds Transition Means for Existing Halifax Accounts

The withdrawal of the app is part of a broader restructuring announced by Lloyds Banking Group in July. Under those plans, Halifax will be replaced by Lloyds across England, Wales and Northern Ireland, with existing branches also being rebranded.

According to BirminghamLive, Lloyds consumer relations boss Jas Singh said Halifax customers would retain their existing sort codes and account numbers, alongside familiar banking services.

The changes will not require customers to open replacement accounts or transfer their balances themselves. Card details, PINs, standing orders, Direct Debits, payments and repayments will continue as before.

Customers will also be able to manage their existing accounts and policies through the Lloyds app. The new platform has a similar design and functionality to the Halifax service, and users can continue using biometric authentication, existing passwords and memorable information.

According to the Express.co.uk, the banking group has reassured customers that the rebranding will not result in their accounts being closed or their money being transferred elsewhere. The company has also confirmed that Halifax branches will be rebranded rather than closed as a direct consequence of the transition.

Customers have been advised to follow instructions provided through official banking channels. Lloyds Banking Group has warned that the change does not require anyone to transfer money or disclose security information, and customers should remain alert to potential scams during the transition.
