A pasta sauce product sold across 41 US states has been urgently recalled due to potential salmonella contamination, according to a Food and Drug Administration (FDA) enforcement report. The recall involves a Class I classification, the most serious category, indicating a risk of severe illness or death.
Product Linked to Milk Powder Contamination
The affected product is an alfredo pasta sauce manufactured by The Coffee Connexion Co. The issue stems from milk powder used in the product, which was previously included in another recall due to possible salmonella contamination.
Health officials say the presence of contaminated ingredients raised concerns that the sauce may pose a serious food safety risk if consumed.
Recall Covers 41 States
The recalled sauce was distributed widely across the United States, including states such as Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana, along with dozens of others. In total, the product reached consumers in 41 states before the recall was issued.
The product was sold in bulk packaging described as 3 lb. 7 oz. sealed poly bags, packed 12 bags per case. The UPC code linked to the recall is 0039954921963.
Affected Batches and Best Before Dates
Several production batches have been identified as part of the recall. These include batch numbers ranging from 046188 through 049094, with corresponding lot numbers and best-by dates extending into 2028.
The affected best-by dates include January, February, March, and April 2028, depending on the production batch. Consumers are being advised to check packaging carefully to determine whether their product is included.
Class I Recall Issued
The FDA has classified this as a Class I recall, meaning there is a reasonable probability that exposure to the product could result in serious health consequences or death. This is the highest level of recall issued by US regulators.
Consumers are urged not to consume any affected products and to follow official recall guidance for disposal or return instructions.

Food Safety Concerns
Salmonella is a bacterial infection that can cause symptoms such as fever, diarrhoea, and stomach cramps. In severe cases, it can lead to hospitalisation, particularly in young children, elderly people, and those with weakened immune systems.
Authorities continue to investigate the supply chain to determine how the contamination occurred and whether additional products may be affected.
Ongoing Monitoring
Food safety officials are continuing to monitor the situation as the recall expands. Consumers are advised to stay alert for updates from the FDA and retailers across affected states.
The recall highlights ongoing concerns about supply chain contamination risks in mass-distributed food products and the importance of checking packaged goods before consumption.
