According to the Met Office, Sunday, 23 August, was expected to begin on a fresh note, with early mist and fog patches clearing quickly. Sunny spells were forecast to make conditions feel pleasant during the day, with temperatures reaching about 22C before falling into single figures overnight.
Monday, 24 August, is also expected to remain dry and fine. Forecasters anticipate a mixture of sunny spells and cloud across the region, with temperatures climbing slightly higher to around 23C before the weather begins to change.
Showers Arrive Before Heavier Rain and Thunderstorms
The first signs of the more unsettled pattern are expected on Tuesday, 25 August. The day is forecast to start dry, but showers are likely to develop during the afternoon, marking a shift away from the settled conditions of the previous days.
Conditions are then expected to become more unsettled from Wednesday, 26 August. According to the Met Office forecast, there is a risk of heavy rain and thunderstorms across the Midlands, although it may also turn warmer and more humid for a time.
The forecast does not indicate that every location will experience severe conditions, but it identifies heavy rain and thunderstorms as a risk as the week progresses. That follows several days in which dry weather, sunshine and relatively mild daytime temperatures are expected to dominate.
The change will also be noticeable after the cooler nights forecast at the start of the week. Sunday night, in particular, was expected to see temperatures fall into single figures before Monday brought another day of sunshine and cloud.
Changeable Conditions Could Continue Into Early September
The unsettled weather may not be limited to the middle of the coming week. The Met Office outlook covering 27 August to 5 September says showers or longer spells of rain are possible across many parts of the UK during the start of that period.
According to the outlook, “some heavy bursts and thunderstorms are likely at times”. The Met Office also expects conditions to remain changeable into early September, with rainfall amounts probably above average for the time of year and the possibility of stronger winds at times.
There may still be breaks in the wetter pattern. Forecasters say some drier and more settled intervals could develop, meaning the period is not expected to consist entirely of rain. Temperatures during the outlook period are forecast to remain near average overall. The Met Office says some short-lived warm or hot spells are also possible, particularly in southern parts of the UK.
For the Midlands, the immediate sequence remains relatively clear: sunny spells and temperatures around 22C on Sunday, another dry day with highs of 23C on Monday, showers becoming possible on Tuesday afternoon, and a greater risk of heavy rain and thunderstorms from Wednesday as conditions become more unsettled.
