The reopenings cover stores in England, Scotland and Wales, with changes ranging from expanded retail space to updated shopping areas and energy-efficient technology. According to the Daily Express, the programme is part of Aldi’s wider investment in its UK operations, which also includes new supermarket openings and additional renewable energy installations.
Eight Aldi Supermarkets Set To Reopen Before Christmas
The first upgraded supermarket is scheduled to reopen on 5 November at Allerton Road in Bradford. Two further stores, on Charter Way in Liskeard and Patrick Street in Greenock, are due to resume trading on 12 November.
Three locations will follow on 19 November: Dartington Drive in Cardiff, Ellison Road in Dunston and Reid Road in Witham. The Perth supermarket at Inveralmond Retail Park is scheduled to reopen on 26 November, while the Kilburn High Road branch in London will complete the programme on 3 December.
The improvements vary across the stores but include extensions, refreshed shopping areas and more energy-efficient equipment. Aldi has also identified its bakery, health and beauty, fresh food and produce departments as areas benefiting from the refurbishment work.
Jonathan Neale, managing director of national real estate at Aldi UK, said the retailer was pleased to reopen the stores ahead of the Christmas period.
“We’re delighted to be welcoming customers back to these newly upgraded stores in time for Christmas,” he said.
Neale added that the investment covered additional space, improvements to shopping departments and the introduction of more energy-efficient technology, with the aim of improving stores for their local communities. According to the retailer, the eight reopenings form part of its £300 million commitment to upgrading existing supermarkets rather than building entirely new locations.

Aldi Outlines Further Investment in New Stores and Solar Energy
Alongside the refurbishment programme, Aldi is investing £370 million in new supermarkets across the UK during 2026. A further £900 million is planned for 2027, including the opening of 40 additional stores.
The investment forms part of the retailer’s longer-term ambition to operate 1,500 supermarkets nationwide. Aldi currently has around 1,000 stores in the UK.
The company is also expanding its use of solar energy. According to the Daily Express, Aldi recently announced a further £17.5 million investment to install solar panels at 230 additional UK supermarkets between 2027 and 2031.
Each installation could provide up to 30% of an individual store’s annual electricity requirements, allowing the retailer to generate a greater proportion of its energy on site.
This follows an existing £8.4 million programme covering solar panel installations at 100 additional supermarkets during 2025 and 2026.
The retailer says more than 500 of its UK stores are expected to have solar panels by the end of 2026. Its total investment in solar power is expected to reach approximately £26 million by 2031.
The eight scheduled reopenings therefore sit within a broader programme covering existing premises, new supermarkets and energy infrastructure, with the immediate focus on returning the refurbished branches to service before Christmas.
