Major UK bank Santander is offering a £50 Amazon voucher to customers who open a new current account, without requiring them to switch from an existing bank. The offer, highlighted by Money Saving Expert, comes with a set of eligibility conditions tied to debit card usage.

The incentive forms part of a broader push by banks to attract new customers, though it differs from traditional switching bonuses by removing the need to move an existing account. According to Money Saving Expert, the deal is available on several Santander accounts, including both free and fee-paying options.

Eligibility Criteria Focus on Consistent Monthly Spending

To qualify for the £50 Amazon voucher, customers must open a new Santander current account and meet a defined pattern of debit card transactions over a three-month period. According to Money Saving Expert, this includes making at least 10 debit card payments of £5 or more in each of May, June and July 2026, totalling a minimum of 30 transactions.

The qualifying accounts include the Santander Edge, Edge Up, Edge Explorer and the Everyday Current Account. The latter is fee-free, while the Edge account carries a monthly fee of £3 and offers 1% cashback on certain household bills paid by Direct Debit, capped at £10 per month.

Money Saving Expert notes that both new and existing Santander customers are eligible to open an additional account to access the offer. The account must remain open throughout the qualifying period, and the transactions must meet the minimum value requirement to count.

There are also restrictions linked to previous incentives. Customers who have received a Santander switching bonus or similar reward within the past year will not be eligible for the voucher. This condition reflects standard industry practice, where banks limit repeat access to promotional offers.

Voucher Delivery Timeline and Alternative Switching Incentive

The process for receiving the voucher extends beyond the spending period. According to details published by Money Saving Expert, eligible customers will receive an email by 15 September 2026 with instructions on how to claim the £50 Amazon voucher. Once issued, the voucher must be claimed within 30 days.

The offer sits alongside a separate incentive for customers willing to switch their main bank account. Santander is currently offering £180 in cash to those who transfer an existing account to either the Edge or Edge Up accounts. This alternative requires completing a full switch, which includes moving direct debits and closing the previous account.

The distinction between the two offers highlights different customer strategies. The £50 voucher is positioned as a lower-commitment option, requiring only account opening and card usage, while the £180 incentive is tied to a more comprehensive banking change.

According to Money Saving Expert, the no-switch requirement may appeal to customers who want to benefit from a reward without altering their primary banking arrangements. At the same time, the structured spending conditions ensure that customers actively use the account during the qualifying period.
