Tesco is urging millions of Clubcard customers to check their accounts before the end of May as more than £17 million worth of vouchers are set to expire. Shoppers have only weeks left to use the rewards before they disappear permanently.

Tesco shoppers warned to check Clubcard vouchers

The supermarket confirmed that vouchers issued in May 2024 will expire at 11.59pm on May 31, 2026 if they are not redeemed in time. Tesco Clubcard vouchers are sent out every three months in February, May, August and November, and each batch remains valid for two years.

With around 24 million Clubcard users across the UK, millions of shoppers could still have unused vouchers sitting in their accounts without realising.

Tesco’s Group Membership and Loyalty Director, Shama Wilson, said this was one of the biggest expiry periods for the loyalty scheme.

How Tesco Clubcard vouchers work

Customers collect Clubcard points while shopping in Tesco stores, online or at Tesco fuel stations. Shoppers earn one point for every £1 spent in-store or online, and one point for every £2 spent on fuel.

Once customers reach at least 150 points, Tesco converts them into a £1.50 voucher, explains The Sun.

The vouchers can be spent directly in Tesco stores or exchanged with reward partners for increased value. In some cases, shoppers can double or even triple the value of their vouchers by using them with partner brands.

Where shoppers can spend Tesco vouchers

Tesco Clubcard vouchers can be used with a wide range of reward partners, including restaurants, cinemas, hotels and attractions. Popular options include Pizza Express, Vue Cinemas, Alton Towers and Legoland.

Tesco said the vouchers could help families save money during the half-term holiday by cutting the cost of meals, days out and travel.

The trick shoppers are using to avoid losing vouchers

Some Tesco customers have been using a simple workaround to extend the life of expiring vouchers.

By making a small purchase through the Tesco Clubcard Rewards website using part of the voucher balance, shoppers may receive the remaining value back as a newly issued voucher with a fresh two-year expiry date.

Tesco has not officially promoted the method, but many shoppers continue using it to avoid losing rewards.

Millions could lose rewards this month

With £17 million in vouchers due to expire before the end of May, Tesco is encouraging customers to log into their Clubcard accounts and check for unused rewards before it is too late.
