Storm Dave is expected to move across the United Kingdom over the Easter weekend, bringing strong winds, snow and disruption to transport and infrastructure. Weather warnings have been issued across dozens of regions as forecasters highlight risks linked to high winds and debris.

The system is forecast to affect coastal and northern areas most severely, with gusts reaching up to 90mph in exposed locations. According to the Met Office, multiple warnings will come into force from Saturday afternoon, with conditions deteriorating into Sunday.

Severe Wind Warnings and Risk to Life across Multiple Regions

The Met Office has issued four yellow warnings for wind and one for snow, covering 59 areas across the UK. These include Northern Ireland, northern England, Wales, and large parts of Scotland. According to the Met Office, the first warning begins at 2pm on Saturday in Northern Ireland, where very strong winds are expected to cause damage and travel disruption.

Further warnings follow throughout the day. By late afternoon, wind alerts extend across the north east and north west of England, Wales, Yorkshire and parts of Scotland. A separate warning covering much of Scotland begins at 6pm, with strong gusts continuing overnight.

Forecasters have warned that debris, including loose tiles and other materials, may be lifted by strong winds, posing a risk of injury. Coastal areas are expected to face additional hazards, with large waves and beach material potentially thrown onto seafronts. According to reporting from the Mirror, there are also concerns about structural damage and collapsing features under extreme conditions.

Transport networks are likely to be affected. Road, rail, air and ferry services may face delays or cancellations as winds intensify. The Met Office has also indicated that mobile networks and other services could be disrupted if power infrastructure is impacted.

Snow and Power Disruption Add to Easter Travel Concerns

Alongside wind warnings, a yellow warning for snow has been issued across parts of northern Scotland. This alert comes into effect at 3pm on Saturday and remains in place until 3am on Sunday. Areas including Central Scotland, Tayside, Fife, Grampian and the Highlands are expected to experience snowfall, with blizzard conditions possible in some locations.

The combination of snow and high winds may create difficult travel conditions, particularly in elevated or rural areas. According to the Met Office, visibility could be reduced significantly during periods of heavy snowfall and strong gusts.

Power outages are another concern linked to the storm. The Met Office has advised residents to prepare for possible disruptions by gathering essential items such as torches, batteries and mobile phone power packs. It noted that advance preparation can help reduce the impact of temporary power loss.

Additional wind warnings are expected to affect Orkney and Shetland from midnight into Sunday, extending the period of disruption across northern regions. These areas are likely to see some of the strongest gusts as the storm system moves through.

The timing of Storm Dave over a busy holiday weekend increases the potential impact, particularly as many people travel or take part in outdoor activities. Authorities continue to advise caution, with warnings remaining in place across multiple regions as conditions develop.
