The offer has been highlighted by money experts as one of the highest cash incentives currently available for a fee-free current account. Customers must meet several conditions before receiving the payment, including moving their account through the official switching service.

Santander Sets Conditions for £240 Switching Payment

The Everyday Current Account comes with no monthly account fee and includes access to Santander’s digital banking services, personalised rewards through Santander Boosts, and an optional arranged overdraft subject to approval.

According to Moneyfactscompare.co.uk finance expert Rachel Springall, the £240 switching payment could appeal to customers looking for additional financial support after the summer period. She said the account offers a straightforward option for everyday banking, though customers must complete specific requirements to qualify.

To receive the payment, customers need to open the Everyday Current Account, request a switch using the Current Account Switch Service before 7 October 2026, and complete the switch within 60 days. They must also have at least two qualifying household direct debits and pay in £1,500.

Customers are also required to fund a Santander Regular Saver account with at least £200 within 60 days of their switch request. The savings account pays 8% AER/gross variable interest, including a 5% bonus for the first 12 months, according to information published by Santander.

The switching offer is only available to people who did not hold a Santander current account on 1 January 2026 or who have not previously received a Santander switching incentive. The bank states that the offer may be withdrawn at any time.

Santander Offer Joins a Competitive Current Account Switching Market

The new deal places Santander among several banks and building societies offering cash incentives to attract current account customers. According to Rachel Springall, other available switching offers include HSBC’s £220 payment, NatWest and RBS offers of £200, and Nationwide Building Society’s £175 incentive.

Springall said switching offers can change throughout the year and advised customers to consider whether an account matches their wider banking needs rather than focusing only on the cash payment. She added that packaged accounts with additional features should be reviewed regularly to ensure they continue to provide value.

The Current Account Switch Service, which allows customers to move balances, direct debits and standing orders to a new provider, is used for Santander’s switching process. According to Santander, the service allows customers to complete the move within seven days once the switch begins.

The Everyday Current Account is available to UK residents aged 18 or over who meet the bank’s eligibility requirements. Customers can manage the account through online banking, mobile banking, telephone banking and branches. The account also provides access to Santander cash machines abroad without fees for withdrawals in certain countries, although other charges may apply depending on how customers use their card while travelling.

For customers considering a change of bank, the £240 payment represents one option among several switching incentives currently available. The value of the offer depends on whether applicants meet the required conditions and whether the account suits their regular banking arrangements.
