Ryanair Tells Travellers To Act Before 9pm Wednesday or Risk Airport Disruption

Ryanair passengers flying this week have been advised to complete online check-in before 9pm on Wednesday, 7 October, as planned maintenance could temporarily take the airline’s website and mobile app offline. Travellers due to fly during the affected period may otherwise be unable to access bookings or generate a digital boarding pass.

The warning comes shortly before the October half-term period, when passengers are also being reminded of Ryanair’s existing airport check-in deadlines. According to the Manchester Evening News, the disruption is linked to a scheduled system upgrade and is expected to affect online services between 21:00 UTC on Wednesday, 7 October and 01:00 UTC on Thursday, 8 October.

Ryanair Website and App May Be Unavailable Overnight

Ryanair has told passengers travelling during the maintenance period to complete online check-in and generate their digital boarding pass before the work begins.

“Due to essential scheduled system upgrade, our website & app might be temporarily unavailable from 21:00 UTC Wed, 7 October – 01:00 UTC Thurs, 8 October,” the airline said in an update quoted by the Manchester Evening News.

During that period, passengers may be unable to access their bookings, including the online check-in function. The airline has therefore asked anyone whose flight falls within the affected hours to prepare their boarding pass before 9pm on Wednesday.

Ryanair currently allows passengers who have reserved a seat to check in online up to 60 days before their scheduled departure. Those who have not reserved a seat and receive one randomly can check in from 24 hours before departure until two hours before the flight.

Passengers who fail to complete online check-in may still be able to check in at the airport, although a fee can apply. According to the Manchester Evening News, the airport check-in charge is £55 per person, falling to £30 for flights departing Spain and £40 for departures from Austria.

Passengers who have already checked in but cannot display their boarding pass in the app at the airport can receive a boarding pass without charge. Travellers departing from Moroccan airports are also exempt from the airport boarding-pass fee provided they have completed online check-in.

The 40-Minute Airport Deadline Remains in Place Until 10 November

The maintenance warning comes as Ryanair passengers travelling during October are also being reminded of the airline’s airport check-in deadline.

According to WalesOnline, Ryanair states that its check-in desks close strictly 40 minutes before the scheduled departure time for passengers travelling before 10 November 2026, unless they have been informed otherwise.

Passengers who have not completed online check-in by two hours before departure may check in at the airport until 40 minutes before the scheduled flight, but they can be charged the applicable airport check-in fee.

The airline’s rules are scheduled to change for flights from 10 November 2026. Ryanair says check-in desks will then close strictly 60 minutes before scheduled departure unless passengers are notified otherwise.

“If you do not complete check-in by then you may be denied boarding without refund,” the airline said in information cited by WalesOnline.

For passengers travelling before that date, the current 40-minute deadline still applies. Online check-in remains unavailable during the final two hours before a flight’s scheduled departure, making advance preparation particularly relevant for travellers whose journeys coincide with Wednesday night’s planned system maintenance.
