Households in Jersey could receive a one-off payment of £516.50 under a government scheme designed to help residents manage living costs. Applications for the 2026–27 Community Costs Bonus are open, although eligibility is restricted to households meeting specific residency, tax and benefit conditions.
The payment is available only to qualifying residents of Jersey, a British Crown Dependency off the coast of Normandy. The scheme has operated annually, with applications brought forward from autumn to July in recent years to provide financial assistance sooner. The current application period began on 14 July 2026 and will remain open until the end of June 2027.
Who Qualifies for Jersey’s £516.50 Cost-of-Living Payment?
According to the Government of Jersey, households must satisfy three conditions to qualify for the Community Costs Bonus. At least one adult in the household must have lived in Jersey for the previous five years, while the household’s combined tax liability for 2025 must be below £2,735.
The third requirement concerns Income Support, an income-related benefit available on the island. No household member must have had an open Income Support claim during the seven days immediately preceding the application.
These conditions apply to the household as a whole rather than solely to the person submitting the application. The authorities use the same definition of a household as that applied under Jersey’s Income Support system.
This can include someone living alone, a married or unmarried couple, or a family sharing an address with children who are below school-leaving age, remain in full-time education or are seeking employment.
Applicants are advised to wait until they have received their latest tax liability before applying. Some qualifying households have already received the bonus automatically and should have been notified by letter.
The Government of Jersey states that anyone who has already received the payment should not submit another application, as it will be rejected. Eligible residents who have not received an automatic payment can apply online through the government’s website.
According to the Daily Express, approximately £2.466 million was allocated from existing government budgets to support the scheme. The authorities have not yet announced whether the Community Costs Bonus will return for 2027–28.

Additional Cold Weather Payments Available to Eligible Pensioner Households
Jersey also operates a Cold Weather Bonus intended to help qualifying pensioner households meet heating costs during the winter months. This assistance is separate from the annual Community Costs Bonus and is subject to additional eligibility conditions.
According to the Government of Jersey, applicants must first qualify for the Community Costs Bonus. Their household must also include an adult who has reached Jersey’s pensionable age and either receives a Jersey old-age pension or has completed ten years of continuous residency before applying.
The applicant or their spouse or partner must own their home or hold responsibility for a lease. Households paying only for board or lodgings are excluded, while their combined tax liability for 2025 must be zero.
The Cold Weather Bonus covers October through April and is paid in two instalments, in January and May. Payment amounts depend on monthly temperatures, with colder conditions generally resulting in higher support.
The scheme defines a cold weather month by an aggregate daily temperature below 15.5°C. Households qualifying for only part of the period may receive a reduced payment reflecting their eligible months.
