The recall concerns Mint Velvet Raya Espadrille Wedge Sandals, which may come apart while being worn, potentially causing falls and injuries. The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) published the official alert on 13 October 2026, confirming that the products do not meet UK safety requirements.

Two Mint Velvet Sandal Models Affected by Safety Recall

The recall covers Mint Velvet Raya Espadrille Wedge Sandals with model numbers Y79431 and Y79434, both sold through Next. The affected products are described as light tan and brown wedge sandals.

According to the Office for Product Safety and Standards, the problem concerns the connection between the footbed and the wedge heel. The footbed can become detached from the heel during normal use, creating a risk that the person wearing the sandals could lose their balance and fall.

The official notice states: “The products present a risk of injuries as it has been identified that the footbed can become dislodged from the wedge heel.”

It further explains that an unexpected separation during use could cause the wearer to fall, resulting in physical injuries. The warning applies specifically to the two identified models rather than the retailer’s wider footwear range.

The sandals feature an open-toe design, a braided jute espadrille wedge heel, an ankle strap with a buckle fastening and gold-tone stud detailing. These characteristics may help customers identify the affected footwear.

The government notice, registered under reference number 2610-0072, categorises the products as clothing, textiles and fashion items. It lists the country of origin as unknown and does not provide a specific risk-level classification. The OPSS also confirms that the sandals fail to comply with the General Product Safety Regulations 2005, which establish safety requirements for consumer products sold in the UK.

Next Contacts Customers As Refund and Replacement Process Begins

Next has initiated a recall of the affected sandals from customers following the safety alert. The retailer has also contacted people who purchased the footwear directly, providing instructions on how to obtain a refund or replacement.

According to the official government recall notice, customers should stop using the affected sandals rather than continue wearing them while awaiting further instructions.

The notice states: “Next have contacted consumers who purchased the heels directly. Owners are advised to stop using the product, and follow the instructions sent by Next to arrange for a refund or replacement.”

The recall follows the identification of a structural problem that could affect the stability of the footwear during use. The corrective action specified by the authorities is a recall from end users, with refunds or replacements available through Next.
