A long-running sports retailer in Warrington is preparing to close one of its stores permanently after more than 10 years, with customers now able to access a final clearance sale before the branch shuts.
The store at Birchwood Shopping Centre has launched a 20% off closing down sale across its stock as it moves towards its final days of operation. The retailer has not announced an exact closing date.
The closure will leave the town with one remaining Sports Direct store at Riverside Retail Park.
Store Closure Confirmed After Years In The Local Community
The Birchwood Shopping Centre branch first opened in 2015 and has operated in the area for over a decade.
According to The Sun, the store has begun a closing down event offering discounts across its products as customers take advantage of reduced prices before the branch permanently closes.
The retailer’s departure from the shopping centre will mark the end of its presence at that location, although shoppers in Warrington will still have access to another store nearby.
The company behind the retailer, Frasers Group, operates more than 500 Sports Direct stores and regularly reviews the locations of its outlets.

More Branch Changes Across The Retail Network
The Warrington closure is not the only change planned across the chain this year.
A store on Bridge Street in Evesham, Worcestershire, is also scheduled to close in October. That branch has started a similar closing down sale, with discounts available throughout the store.
Another location in Inverness is also going through a transition. The store on Academy Street is currently running a clearance sale ahead of a move to a new city centre location.
These changes reflect a pattern where the retailer adjusts its physical presence by closing some sites while moving or expanding others.
Retailer Focuses On Larger Store Formats
While some smaller branches are closing, Frasers Group has continued to develop larger retail spaces.
Earlier this year, the company opened a new Sports Direct megastore measuring 31,000 square feet, highlighting its continued investment in bigger store formats.
The group has traditionally moved stores to new premises rather than closing locations permanently whenever possible. Relocations allow the retailer to maintain a presence in areas where customer demand remains strong.
The approach combines store closures with new openings and relocations as the company reviews its wider retail strategy.
