Aldi is expanding electric vehicle charging facilities across its UK stores, giving more shoppers the option to charge their cars while they shop.
Aldi Moves 1,200 Chargers to New Electric Vehicle Network
The supermarket chain has transferred around 1,200 electric vehicle chargers to Drax Electric Vehicles, a company that also works with businesses including Arnold Clark. The chargers are now available across more than 250 Aldi supermarket locations.
The move is part of Aldi’s wider plan to increase access to electric vehicle charging at its stores and support customers who drive electric cars.
Charging Prices Start at 40p per kWh
Customers using Aldi’s chargers can choose between different charging speeds. Fast charging is priced at 40p per kWh, while rapid charging costs 62p per kWh. According to figures from Love Electric, supermarket charging prices typically range between 50p and 65p per kWh, meaning Aldi’s fast charging option is below the average price range.
Drivers can check charger availability, view costs and make payments through the Charge Assist app. Contactless card payments are also available on newly installed chargers, with no subscription required.
More Stores Set to Receive Chargers
Aldi currently has charging facilities at selected locations, including stores in Diss in Norfolk, Eastbourne, Durham and Yate near Bristol. The supermarket plans to install electric vehicle chargers at around 20 new stores every year.
Jonathan Neale, managing director of national real estate at Aldi UK, said the company wants to make electric vehicle charging more accessible for shoppers. He said expanding charging points at stores would give customers a convenient option while completing their shopping.
Customers Advised to Check Availability Before Visiting
Although more Aldi stores now have charging facilities, not every branch offers the service. Drivers are advised to contact their local store before travelling if they want to use a charger.
Customers can find their nearest Aldi location through the company’s store locator. The expansion comes as supermarkets across the UK continue adding electric vehicle charging points, giving drivers more options as electric car ownership grows.
