The scheme, announced on 21 October 2026, brings together the bank’s personal and business customers through its existing Rewards programme. According to Lloyds, eligible customers can activate offers through its mobile banking app and receive cashback directly into their accounts after making qualifying purchases.
How the 10% Cashback Scheme Works for Lloyds Customers
The trial is available to eligible Lloyds customers whose registered addresses are in York or Exeter. Participants must be aged 18 or over, hold a personal banking relationship with Lloyds and use the bank’s mobile app.
Customers can access available offers through the Rewards section of the app, where promotions are displayed according to the postcode registered to their account. Once an offer has been activated, purchases must be made using an eligible Lloyds debit or credit card. No vouchers or promotional codes are required, and cashback is paid directly into customers’ current accounts.
According to the Daily Express.co.uk, the scheme is being introduced as shoppers begin preparing for Christmas, with participating businesses ranging from hospitality venues to family attractions.
In York, confirmed participants include Dusk Bar, Durham Ox and Chris Sellers Tyres. Businesses taking part in the Exeter area include The Holt, Oriel’s, The Milky Way Adventure Park, The Marine in Dawlish, Bicton Botanical Gardens, World of Country Life and Kit Heath.
The bank has confirmed that offers will become available through its app as participating businesses join the scheme. The new initiative forms part of Lloyds’ existing Rewards programme, which provides customers with access to cashback offers, discounts, prize draws and other benefits. Available promotions vary between customers and can change over time.
Since January, Lloyds Banking Group has paid more than £16 million in cashback to customers across its rewards activities.

Why Lloyds Is Testing the Initiative in York and Exeter
The cashback trial is intended to help independent businesses reach customers who already bank with Lloyds, while giving personal banking customers an incentive to spend locally.
According to Lloyds’ official announcement, the bank selected York and Exeter for the initial launch, with plans to explore whether the scheme could be extended to other UK communities.
Ruchir Rodrigues, managing director of Business and Innovation Banking at Lloyds, explained that the trial would help the bank understand how its existing customer relationships could support independent businesses.
“Independent businesses are at the heart of thriving local economies,” Rodrigues said, adding that the initiative gives business customers another way to increase their visibility through the Lloyds mobile banking app.
The Milky Way Adventure Park, one of the participating family-run businesses, welcomed the opportunity to connect with new and returning visitors through the scheme. Paul Wilkinson, Rewards and Loyalty Director at Lloyds, said the initiative was intended to provide value for customers while supporting local communities.
“This trial brings together our personal and business customers in a way that can benefit both,” Wilkinson said.
Lloyds, which has more than 28 million customers, describes the launch as an early step in its wider ambition to connect consumers with independent businesses through its banking services. For now, the 10% cashback offer remains limited to eligible customers and participating businesses in the two trial areas. Any wider rollout will depend on what Lloyds learns from the initial launch.
