Parts of the UK are set to see a return of warmer weather this September, with temperatures forecast to reach 23C in some southern areas after a cooler and wetter start to the month.

The brief spell of sunshine is expected to arrive as a band of rain moves across parts of the country, bringing a noticeable change in conditions for many regions.

Warmer Conditions to Reach Southern England

London, parts of Essex, and Kent are forecast to record highs of 23C on Saturday afternoon, while other areas experience unsettled weather.

Rain will continue across parts of the UK before moving eastwards, affecting areas including Wales, Manchester, Yorkshire, and the North East. Forecasters expect the heaviest rainfall in northern England, while southern areas are likely to remain drier later in the day.

The warmer air will spread further on Sunday, with cities including Birmingham, Sheffield, Leeds, and York expected to reach around 20C during the afternoon.

Met Office Forecasts a Brief Autumn Warm Spell

According to the MET Office, temperatures should feel warmer by Saturday, with brighter periods developing in the north on Friday and across the south on Saturday.

The forecast agency expects the end of September and start of October to bring more changeable weather, with a higher likelihood of rain and showers. Temperatures are still expected to remain slightly above average overall as autumn progresses.

The return of mild conditions follows a record-breaking UK summer, which saw temperatures rise above 38C during the hottest day of the year.

Warm Weather Follows Record Summer Heat

The summer heat contributed to severe dry conditions across England, with three-quarters of the country affected by drought conditions and around 27 million people placed under hosepipe restrictions.

The upcoming September warmth is expected to provide a short period of calmer weather before more unsettled conditions develop later in the season.

The MET Office forecast shows London could reach 23C again on Monday after the warmer weekend conditions.
