Around 505,000 ScottishPower customers could qualify for a £150 discount on their electricity bills under changes to the Warm Home Discount scheme for 2026. The support is aimed at households receiving certain benefits, with eligibility rules changing this year so that more households across Great Britain can qualify.

Which Benefits Can Qualify For The £150 Payment?

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) identifies eligible households in England, Scotland and Wales.

The qualifying benefits listed by ScottishPower are: Universal Credit, Pension Credit, Housing Benefit, Income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)

Eligible households can receive the £150 discount automatically where the required criteria are met.

505,000 ScottishPower Customers Could Qualify

ScottishPower expects around 505,000 customers to qualify through the automatic matching process. The energy supplier said the Warm Home Discount is part of a wider package of support for customers facing pressure from energy costs.

ScottishPower is expected to provide around £73 million through the scheme this year.

More Households Could Qualify In 2026

Changes to the Warm Home Discount criteria mean some households that did not qualify in previous years may now be eligible. Around 5.9 million households across Great Britain are expected to receive support during the latest scheme year.

Around £890 million is expected to be delivered through energy bill rebates.

Scotland Has Different Rules

Eligibility works differently in Scotland. Customers who do not qualify through the Core Group but receive other benefits that meet their supplier’s criteria may need to apply each year.

This means Scottish customers should check the latest eligibility conditions rather than assume that receiving a qualifying benefit automatically results in the discount.

How The £150 Discount Is Applied

The Warm Home Discount is a £150 reduction towards electricity costs rather than a cash payment sent directly to customers. For households identified as eligible through the automatic process, the discount is applied to the electricity account under the scheme rules.

Customers who believe they qualify but do not receive information about the support should check the latest guidance from their energy supplier and the relevant government services.

ScottishPower Offers Additional Support

The energy company said it is also providing energy advice and other assistance programmes for customers who need further help with their bills. ScottishPower said households have different circumstances and that its wider support services are intended to help customers manage their energy costs throughout the year.

For eligible customers, the Warm Home Discount provides a £150 contribution towards electricity costs during the colder months.
