Energy Efficiency Grants for Homes
The scheme, known as Warm Homes: Local Grant, is part of a government programme aimed at improving housing standards and reducing energy waste. Households with an income below £36,000 are the primary target group, although some support may still be available for higher earners depending on circumstances.
Eligible homes must be privately owned, either by the occupant or by a landlord. In rented properties, landlords may be required to contribute towards the cost of improvements, although tenants will not be expected to pay directly for the work.
A key requirement is that properties must have an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of D, E, F, or G, meaning the focus is on homes that are least energy efficient.
What Improvements Are Covered
The grant can fund a wide range of energy-saving upgrades. These include insulation measures such as cavity wall, loft, internal wall, underfloor, and solid wall insulation. Homes may also qualify for improvements to roofs, floors, and hot water systems, including cylinder insulation and thermostats.
The scheme also supports modern heating and energy technologies, such as air-source and ground-source heat pumps, hybrid systems, and high heat retention storage heaters. In addition, households may receive help with solar panels, battery storage systems, and smart heating controls designed to improve energy efficiency and reduce long-term bills.
Other eligible improvements include draught proofing, energy-efficient doors and windows, and low-energy lighting installations.
