The outlook identifies potential snowfall across the Northeast, Atlantic Corridor, Appalachians, Lower Lakes, Upper Midwest and Alaska. Other regions could experience warmer conditions or periods of rain, creating different weather patterns across the country during one of its major travel holidays.
Snow Could Affect Northern States During Thanksgiving Week
According to the Old Farmer’s Almanac, snow is possible across six regions during Thanksgiving week, although conditions on the holiday itself will differ from those expected before and afterward.
The Northeast, including Albany, Burlington, Augusta and Concord, could experience rain around Thanksgiving, with snow also possible during the surrounding days. Temperatures are expected to remain mild on November 26, despite colder conditions earlier and later in the week.
A similar pattern is forecast along the Atlantic Corridor, covering Boston, New York City, Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington, D.C. Rain and mild temperatures are expected on Thanksgiving, followed by cooler weather that could bring snow to northern areas over the weekend.
In the Appalachians, snow showers in northern areas and rain farther south could precede the holiday. Thanksgiving itself is expected to bring sunshine and warmer temperatures, before cooler conditions and possible snowfall return to the north. The Lower Lakes region, including Buffalo, Cleveland, Detroit, Chicago and Milwaukee, faces a chance of both rain and snow throughout the holiday week. Temperatures are expected to remain cool.
Farther north, the Upper Midwest could experience flurries and snow showers, accompanied by temperatures below historical averages. The forecast covers locations including Minneapolis, Duluth, Green Bay and International Falls. Alaska presents another contrast. Its panhandle is expected to experience mild temperatures and rain showers, while other parts of the state could see snow and colder conditions.

Sunshine and Rain Divide the Rest of the Country
According to the Almanac’s regional outlook, several southern and western areas could experience warmer weather during Thanksgiving, although rainfall remains possible in some locations.
Texas and Oklahoma are expected to see generally warm conditions, with sunshine across Oklahoma and northern Texas. Southern Texas could experience showers despite similarly warm temperatures.
The High Plains, including Denver, Cheyenne, Bismarck and Billings, are forecast to have sunny skies and very warm temperatures during Thanksgiving week, following an earlier period of colder weather and occasional precipitation. Sunshine is also expected across the Desert Southwest, while California’s Pacific Southwest should experience clear conditions on Thanksgiving and the following weekend. Northern California is expected to be cooler than southern areas.
Elsewhere, rain remains a prominent feature. The Pacific Northwest could experience periods of heavy rainfall, while the Southeast and Florida face showers alongside warm temperatures. The Heartland, including St. Louis, Kansas City and Omaha, is forecast to have a rainy, chilly Thanksgiving.
