Customers affected by a 2024 data breach at Furniture Mart USA could receive up to $4,500 in compensation under a proposed class action settlement. The deadline to submit a claim is November 3, 2026, leaving eligible shoppers little time to seek reimbursement.
A 2024 Data Breach Exposed Sensitive Customer Information
Furniture Mart USA agreed to settle a lawsuit alleging that the retailer failed to adequately protect customers’ personal information during a cybersecurity incident in 2024.
According to The US Sun, the breach reportedly compromised sensitive consumer records, including Social Security numbers and dates of birth. Such information can be used in identity theft and fraudulent financial activity, raising concerns about the potential consequences for affected customers.
The lawsuit accused the company of failing to implement sufficient safeguards to prevent unauthorized access to personal data.
Furniture Mart USA, which operates stores across South Dakota, Nebraska, Iowa, and Minnesota, has denied no specific wrongdoing in the reported settlement terms. The company has not admitted liability and agreed to resolve the litigation without disclosing the total settlement amount.
The agreement establishes several forms of compensation depending on the losses customers experienced.

Eligible Customers Could Receive Up to $4,500
Under the settlement terms, affected customers may qualify for reimbursement of up to $4,500 in documented losses connected to the breach.
Eligible expenses include fraudulent charges, costs associated with identity theft, and related credit fees. Claimants seeking this payment must provide supporting documentation demonstrating their financial losses.
Customers who cannot document losses may instead qualify for a one-time $75 payment, according to the reported settlement provisions.
The agreement also allows class members to request compensation for time spent responding to the incident. Eligible individuals can claim up to $100 for four hours of lost time, calculated at $25 per hour.
These payment categories serve different purposes, and the amount an individual receives depends on the applicable settlement requirements and the validity of the submitted claim.
Free Credit Monitoring Is Also Available to Affected Shoppers
Financial compensation is not the only benefit offered under the agreement.
All eligible class members can receive three years of free credit monitoring through CyEx Identity Defense Complete, regardless of whether they experienced financial losses or spent time addressing the breach.
The service is intended to help affected individuals monitor potential misuse of their personal information following the cybersecurity incident.
Customers must submit a valid claim by November 3, 2026, to seek settlement benefits. The court has scheduled the final approval hearing for November 9, meaning payments remain subject to the settlement approval process.
Another Data Breach Settlement Offers Payments of Up to $4,000
A separate cybersecurity settlement involving Baptist Health also offers compensation to people whose personal information was reportedly compromised in 2024.
The healthcare organization, which operates medical centers across Arkansas, faced a lawsuit alleging inadequate cybersecurity protections after an incident exposed patient information, including names, addresses, and medical details.
Under that agreement, eligible individuals can seek up to $400 for qualifying out-of-pocket expenses.
Patients who experienced documented fraud or identity theft linked to the breach may qualify for payments of up to $4,000.
Baptist Health has not admitted wrongdoing and agreed to settle the litigation for an undisclosed amount.
For Furniture Mart USA customers, the immediate deadline remains November 3, 2026, six days before the court’s scheduled final approval hearing on November 9.
