The White House announced the opening as President Donald Trump continued his push for lower gasoline prices during the summer. The initiative comes amid his calls for fuel retailers to reduce prices at the pump after crude oil futures retreated to levels seen before the recent U.S.-Israel conflict with Iran.

According to the White House, the first station is offering gasoline at $3.47 per gallon. The administration promoted the launch on X, linking the price to Trump, the 47th president, and saying the initiative was intended to put more money in consumers’ pockets.

The network is operated by a private retailer that branded its stations as Freedom Fuel to align with Trump’s campaign for lower energy costs. A White House spokesperson told CBS News that the company is not affiliated with the Trump administration and receives no federal subsidies.

A Private Retailer Cuts Margins To Offer Lower Gas Prices

The Freedom Fuel Network’s discounted prices are reportedly made possible by the retailer accepting smaller profit margins. No federal subsidies are being provided to the company, according to the White House spokesperson cited by CBS News.

“This Retailer is taking the lead, and others should follow,” Trump previously said.

The White House also shared a video showing customers reacting to the lower prices. “Right now, we’re in a difficult time in this world, but it’s nice to see some stability that we can enjoy,” one person said in the video.

The administration described the Philadelphia opening in a post on X: “The FIRST Freedom Fuel Network gas station has LANDED in Philadelphia, lowering the price at the pump to $3.47 for our 47th President.”

The post continued: “President Trump is leading the charge to lower gas prices this summer — putting more money in your pocket.”

Trump Calls for Gasoline Prices Closer to $2.50 per Gallon

The rollout follows Trump’s call for gasoline retailers to immediately reduce prices at the pump. He argued that consumers should be paying less because crude oil futures had retreated to levels seen before the recent U.S.-Israel conflict with Iran.

Although the national average gasoline price hovered around $3 per gallon, Trump urged retailers to target prices closer to $2.50 per gallon.

He also accused some companies of price gouging and warned that the federal government could investigate if gasoline prices remained elevated.

The first Freedom Fuel station’s $3.47-per-gallon price remains above Trump’s stated $2.50 target, while standing about 50 cents below Pennsylvania’s statewide average. The network’s 25 stations are privately operated, receive no federal subsidies and are reportedly offering lower prices by accepting smaller profit margins.
