UK households are being informed about special payments meant to help with the cost of living. These payments are provided through the Household Support Fund (HSF) managed by local councils are expected to be issued in various regions across the country throughout August.
Cost of Living Assistance: Local Authorities Distributing Up to £550 in Grants
Several local authorities have already started issuing the cost of living payments, which are funded by the government.
Those with remaining funds will continue to distributing money throughout the month of August, so people facing financial difficulties can apply for the cost of living assistance.
This support is available to those having trouble affording essential items including food, gas, and electricity. While many who qualify for this aid are on benefits, it is not a condition for eligibility.
Councils are providing grants of up to £550, although the amounts may be lower in some regions. For example, residents in Birmingham are receiving £200.
Local Authorities Warn Funds May Run Out Soon
Local authorities have set a limit on the funds they can distribute and administrators are warning that these resources are expected to be exhausted quickly because of high demand, especially in areas with significant poverty. As a result, the available support will continue only until the current funds are depleted.
Dudley Council, for instance, has already closed its summer support programme due to a surge in applications.
Although the funds are meant to last until September, many areas could run out of money before then, so those in need should submit an application as soon as possible.
People are advised to reach out to their local councils in order to know more about Household Support Fund. Birmingham City Council stated: “Birmingham Voluntary Service Council’s will be distributing grants of up to £200 to Birmingham households currently facing financial hardship.
The funds are intended to help households with food costs and energy payments. “We will continue to accept applications until September 30, 2024 or until all funding has been exhausted, if sooner.”
