Around 11,000 bottles of RootStim hair regrowth treatments sold on Amazon have been recalled because their packaging could allow young children to access minoxidil, a medication that can cause serious poisoning if swallowed. Federal regulators warn that the defect creates a risk of severe injury or death.
Federal Regulators Identify a Child Safety Violation
According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the recall affects three minoxidil-based products distributed by New York-based RootStim LLC.
The treatments contain 5% minoxidil, an active ingredient used to stimulate hair growth. Federal law requires products containing this substance to have child-resistant packaging under the Poison Prevention Packaging Act.
The recalled bottles do not meet that requirement, potentially allowing children to access their contents.
The warning concerns the packaging rather than a reported manufacturing defect in the medication itself. Regulators have received no reports of injuries or incidents involving the affected products.
Still, the CPSC has instructed consumers to immediately secure the treatments away from children and arrange for replacements.

Three RootStim Treatments Sold on Amazon Are Affected
The recall covers products manufactured in China and sold exclusively on Amazon.com between August 2025 and February 2026. Prices ranged from $20 to $40.
Three specific products are included:
- RootStim 5% Minoxidil Foam Hair Regrowth Treatment with Rosemary and Biotin: A blue-and-white box with orange accents containing three 2-ounce foam-pump bottles. UPC: 810169130594.
- RootStim Minoxidil Hair Regrowth Treatment 5% Minoxidil Rosemary & Biotin: A magenta box containing one 2-ounce spray-pump bottle. UPC: 810169301005.
- RootStim Minoxidil Hair Regrowth Treatment 5% Minoxidil with Rosemary: A blue-and-white package containing two 2-ounce amber glass bottles fitted with black spray-pump caps. UPC: 810169301012.
Each UPC appears on the bottom of the product’s packaging. Customers can use these numbers to determine whether their treatment is included in the recall.

Why Minoxidil Can Be Dangerous if Children Swallow It
Minoxidil is commonly used in topical treatments for hair loss. Although intended for application to the scalp, the substance also affects blood vessels and blood pressure.
Accidental ingestion can cause dangerously low blood pressure, rapid heartbeat, dizziness, and other cardiovascular complications. Young children face particular risks because even relatively small exposures can produce significant effects.
Child-resistant packaging helps limit accidental access to medications containing potentially hazardous ingredients.
The absence of this protection is particularly concerning for products commonly stored in bathrooms or other accessible areas of the home.
The recall does not cover every minoxidil treatment on the market. It applies specifically to the three identified RootStim products.
What Customers Must Do to Receive a Replacement
Consumers who own an affected treatment should immediately keep it out of children’s sight and reach.
RootStim has provided a replacement procedure requiring customers to write “RECALLED” on the bottle, discard it securely, and photograph the discarded item.
Customers must email the photograph to [email protected] to request a replacement.
Anyone who suspects a child has swallowed minoxidil should seek immediate medical advice or contact poison control rather than wait for symptoms.
