Citi is increasing the annual fee on its premium Citi / AAdvantage Executive Mastercard from $595 to $695 starting August 23, 2026, introducing a major change for travelers who rely on the card’s airline-focused benefits.
The updated card package adds new credits, rewards opportunities, and hotel partnerships designed for dedicated American Airlines customers, while keeping several of its most valuable existing features.
The higher price puts the spotlight on whether frequent flyers can recover the additional cost through lounge access, travel credits, and loyalty rewards.
For occasional travelers, the new fee may change the value calculation of the card. For passengers who regularly fly with American Airlines, the expanded benefits could provide enough value to justify the increased annual expense.
The update reflects a broader shift among premium travel cards, where issuers are adding more targeted benefits while raising prices for customers who want exclusive travel advantages.
Citi Introduces A Higher Fee With A New Set Of Premium Travel Rewards
The Citi / AAdvantage Executive Mastercard is designed around the needs of travelers who frequently use American Airlines rather than customers searching for a flexible travel rewards card.
According to information reported by The Sun, the card’s annual fee will rise by $100, moving from $595 to $695 as the companies introduce a redesigned benefit structure.
American Airlines senior vice president of AAdvantage, Scott Long, told CNN Underscored that the card remains focused on loyal airline customers who can maximize its features through regular travel.
The updated package includes benefits that could provide up to $2,300 in annual value, though reaching that figure requires customers to actively use many of the available perks.
The largest new addition is an annual credit of up to $500 for eligible purchases through American Airlines Vacations.
The program allows travelers to combine flights, hotels, and rental cars into a single vacation booking, creating additional value for customers who already use the airline’s vacation platform.
The benefit may be less attractive for travelers who prefer independent hotel bookings, outside travel platforms, or hotel loyalty programs that operate separately from American Airlines.

New Credits Reward Frequent American Airlines Customers
The redesigned card introduces additional statement credits aimed at making everyday travel expenses more valuable for members.
Cardholders can receive up to $100 per calendar year in credits for eligible purchases made during flights and inside Admirals Club locations.
The credit can cover qualifying food and beverage purchases onboard aircraft as well as eligible spending inside airport lounges.
This replaces the previous 25% savings on eligible in-flight food and beverage purchases, creating a different type of benefit structure.
The new approach gives travelers a clear annual credit amount, but once the $100 limit is reached, the previous discount model no longer applies.
The card also adds more opportunities to earn AAdvantage Loyalty Points, helping frequent travelers move closer to elite status within the airline’s loyalty program.
Additional partnerships, including new benefits connected to Omni Hotels, expand the card beyond flight-related rewards.
These changes show that the updated card is aimed at customers who organize much of their travel around the American Airlines ecosystem.
Admirals Club Access Remains The Card’s Biggest Attraction
Despite the higher annual fee, one of the card’s most recognized benefits remains unchanged: unlimited access to more than 100 Admirals Club and partner lounges worldwide.
Unlike some competing premium cards, the Citi / AAdvantage Executive Mastercard does not require a yearly spending threshold before members can access lounges.
For frequent travelers, airport lounge access can represent a major part of the card’s overall value.
Members can use lounges to work, relax, access refreshments, and spend time away from crowded airport terminals before flights.
The benefit becomes especially relevant for passengers who travel regularly for business or take multiple long-distance trips each year.
American Airlines continues to update and expand its lounge network, with redesigned locations intended to improve the airport experience for premium customers.
The continued lounge access feature remains one of the strongest reasons dedicated American Airlines passengers may keep the card despite the increased cost.
