Target shoppers will soon lose access to Ulta Beauty products in stores as the retailer ends a five-year partnership with the beauty company.
Ulta Beauty Products to Leave Target Stores by August 1
Target confirmed that its partnership with Ulta Beauty will officially end, with all Ulta products removed from Target locations by August 1. The beauty retailer has already started removing products from stores in phases.
The partnership began five years ago and introduced dedicated Ulta Beauty sections inside Target stores. At its peak, the collaboration included around 1,000-square-foot beauty spaces across 600 Target locations.
Target said it remains focused on expanding its own beauty offering after the partnership ends.
Target Plans New Beauty Strategy Under New CEO
The decision comes as Target moves forward with changes under new chief executive Michael Fiddelke. Before taking the CEO position, Fiddelke said he was “far from satisfied” with the company’s financial performance, report the sun.
Rick Gomez, Target’s executive vice president and chief commercial officer, said the company was proud of the partnership with Ulta Beauty and the experience it created for customers.
He said Target would continue developing its beauty department with a focus on new brands, product variety and value.
Ulta Beauty Plans Further Store Expansion
While the partnership with Target is ending, Ulta Beauty is continuing to expand its own retail network. CEO Kecia Steelman announced plans to open between 50 and 56 new stores a year over the next two to three years.
She said the company would use lessons from the partnership with Target to guide future decisions. Ulta Beauty has also closed some of its own stores during the past year as part of wider changes to its retail network.
Target Continues Store Expansion Plans
The end of the Ulta partnership comes alongside Target’s own expansion plans. The retailer has announced several new store openings, including 11 locations in July and more than 30 additional stores expected by the end of the year.
The company said its beauty department will continue to be a major part of its shopping experience, with its own selection of products replacing Ulta Beauty sections.
The partnership’s end marks a shift in how both retailers approach beauty sales, with Target focusing on its own product range and Ulta Beauty continuing its independent expansion.
