Current and former Comcast customers may be eligible for compensation from a $117.5 million class action settlement following a data breach that exposed sensitive customer information in 2023.
Data Breach Exposed Xfinity Customer Information
The legal action relates to a breach that occurred between October 16 and October 19, 2023, affecting customers of Comcast’s Xfinity services.
According to the lawsuit, the incident exposed personal data including Social Security numbers. Plaintiffs claimed that Comcast had inadequate security measures in place to protect customer information.
Comcast has denied the allegations but agreed to the settlement to avoid further litigation costs. The company said the agreement allows it to resolve the dispute while continuing to focus on protecting customer information.
Customers who received a breach notification from Comcast in December 2023 are included in the settlement group and may be able to submit a claim.
Compensation Depends on Supporting Evidence
Eligible customers can seek compensation of up to $10,000 if they can provide documents showing losses connected to the data breach. Evidence may include financial records such as bank statements, receipts or other documents that demonstrate expenses or losses linked to the incident.
Customers who do not have supporting documents can still submit a claim and may receive a fixed payment of $50. The final amount could change depending on the number of approved claims submitted.
The settlement administrator will review claims before payments are distributed. The amount received by individual customers will depend on their eligibility and the available settlement funds.

Customers Can Receive Identity Protection Services
Alongside potential financial compensation, all eligible class members can receive up to three years of free financial monitoring, credit monitoring and identity theft protection services. These services are designed to help affected customers watch for unusual activity involving their personal information after the breach.
Data breaches involving personal details can create long-term concerns for consumers, particularly when sensitive information such as Social Security numbers is exposed.
Claim Deadline Set for August 14
Eligible Comcast customers must submit a valid claim form by August 14 to participate in the settlement. People who believe they qualify should review the information provided in their breach notification and follow the official claims process.
The case highlights the financial consequences companies can face after cybersecurity incidents affect large numbers of customers. For consumers, settlements such as this one provide a way to seek compensation while also receiving services designed to reduce risks linked to stolen personal data.
