A recall has been issued for select pouches of Pearl Milling Company Original Pancake & Waffle Complete Mix sold in Puerto Rico after a labeling error involving allergen information. The affected products contain milk and soy, but the packaging stated that the mix “may contain milk and soy” rather than clearly indicating that it “contains milk and soy,” prompting the recall.
The action was announced by Ballester Hermanos and posted by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The recall applies to specific lots distributed to retail stores across Puerto Rico. No illnesses linked to the products have been reported.
Consumers with allergies or severe sensitivities to milk or soy face a risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reactions if they consume the recalled mix. The recall was initiated to correct the labeling issue and alert consumers who may have purchased the product.
Labeling Error Prompted the Recall
According to the recall notice published by the FDA, Ballester Hermanos discovered that the allergen statement on affected packages was incorrect. The label indicated that the product “may contain milk and soy,” while the mix actually contains both ingredients.
The recalled product is Pearl Milling Company Original Pancake & Waffle Complete Mix packaged in a red 5.99-ounce (170-gram) pouch. Consumers may have purchased the product beginning in January 2026 from various retail stores in Puerto Rico.
The affected lots carry expiration dates of January 23, 2027; January 24, 2027; and February 25, 2027. The specific lot numbers listed in the recall include 23A26C6, 24A26A7, 24A26B2, 24A26B5, 24A26C6, 23A26B5, 24A26A6, 25B26C13, 25B26A14, 25B26B4, 25B26A15, and 25B26B1.
According to Food Manufacturing, the wholesaler said the products’ allergen disclosure contained an incorrect word, leading to the recall. The company emphasized that the purpose of the action is to notify consumers about the labeling error rather than a change in the product itself. As of the recall announcement, no illnesses related to the improperly labeled products had been reported in the market.
Consumers Advised to Check Purchased Products
The recall notice states that individuals who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk and soy should not consume the affected products. Exposure could result in a serious allergic reaction.
According to reports, Ballester Hermanos advised consumers who may have purchased the recalled mix to inspect their pantries and identify any affected packages. Consumers who find the recalled product are being instructed to return it to the original place of purchase.
The current recall differs from an earlier Pearl Milling Company pancake mix recall announced by The Quaker Oats Company in January 2025. According to the FDA announcement from that time, a limited number of two-pound boxes of Pearl Milling Company Original Pancake & Waffle Mix were recalled because they may have contained undeclared milk. That earlier recall involved products distributed in 11 U.S. states and was unrelated to the Puerto Rico labeling issue announced this week.
For the Puerto Rico recall, the issue centers specifically on the wording of the allergen statement. Ballester Hermanos said the products contain milk and soy, but the packaging did not accurately communicate that information to consumers who rely on allergen labels when making purchasing and food safety decisions. As of the latest notice, no illnesses have been associated with the recalled lots.
