The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has published a public notice regarding a limited voluntary recall of one lot of Birch Benders 12-ounce Sweet Potato Pancake & Waffle Mix. The action concerns a potential labeling issue involving undeclared egg.
For people with an allergy or severe sensitivity to egg, consuming the affected product may create a risk of a serious allergic reaction. According to the company announcement published by the FDA, no illnesses connected to the recalled mix had been reported at the time of publication.
Single Lot Identified as Part of Nationwide Recall
The recall applies only to Birch Benders 12 oz Sweet Potato Pancake & Waffle Mix distributed nationwide through grocery stores, natural food retailers, and online sales channels in the United States.
According to Hometown Food Company’s announcement, the affected product can be identified through several packaging details. The recalled item carries UPC code 8 1000156076 8 and case item code 8 1000156076 5. The specific lot code involved is 5 265, and the Best-If-Used-By date is MAR 24, 2027.
The company stated that no other Birch Benders products or other Hometown Food Company products are included in the recall. Products carrying different lot codes or Best-If-Used-By dates are not affected.
Consumers can find the Best-If-Used-By date and lot information on the back of the package above the Nutrition Facts panel. The recall was initiated with the knowledge of the FDA and described by the company as limited and voluntary.
Consumers Advised to Discard or Return Affected Packages
People who purchased the recalled pancake mix are being asked not to use it. According to the FDA notice and reporting published by PennLive, consumers who have the affected package should either discard the product immediately or return it to the retailer where it was purchased in order to obtain a refund.
Hometown Food Company also stated that replacement coupons are being offered to affected customers. In its public statement, the company said: “We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this recall may cause and are offering replacement coupons for your product.”
