The United States Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has announced the recall of around 4,596 pounds of ready-to-eat chicken stew products imported from South Korea. The products were recalled after authorities found they had entered the United States without the required import reinspection.
The affected items are Sempio Korean Ginseng Chicken Stew Classic and Sempio Korean Ginseng Chicken Stew Rich, both sold in 31.75-ounce (900 g) packages. Consumers who have purchased the products have been advised not to eat them and either discard them or return them to the place of purchase.
FSIS Identifies Recalled Sempio Chicken Stew Products
According to the FSIS announcement released on 25 September 2026, Sempio Food Services Inc., based in Cerritos, California, is recalling the chicken stew products because they were imported from the Republic of Korea without the benefit of import reinspection in the United States.
The recalled products were produced on 30 March 2026 and carry a best-by date of 29 September 2027. They include cardboard boxes containing pouches labelled “Sempio Korean Ginseng CHICKEN STEW CLASSIC” and “Sempio Korean Ginseng CHICKEN STEW RICH”.
The products can be identified by the Korean establishment number “GIA15001” and the shipping mark “MK-2026-0422-01”. According to FSIS, the recalled products were distributed to distributors and retailers in Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Virginia.
The issue was discovered during routine FSIS surveillance activities. The agency said there have been no confirmed reports of illness or injury linked to consumption of the recalled products.
FSIS has advised consumers who may still have the products in their homes not to consume them. Retailers have also been instructed not to sell the affected items. The recalled products should be thrown away or returned to the retailer where they were purchased.

The recall involves products classified by FSIS as thermally processed and commercially sterile. The agency said it conducts recall effectiveness checks to confirm that companies notify customers and that recalled products are removed from availability.
According to the FSIS notice, the agency will publish retail distribution lists on its recalls website when they become available. The checks are part of the agency’s process for monitoring whether recall actions are carried out properly.
