TK Maxx is preparing to leave its long-standing Worthing location after 25 years, but the retailer is not abandoning the town center. Instead, it will reopen just days later in a new unit on one of the seaside town’s main shopping streets.

The move will see the discount fashion and homeware chain close its current 8,000-square-foot store at the Montague Centre on November 8, 2026, before reopening nearby on November 12.

TK Maxx Will Reopen Just Days After Closing Its Current Store

According to The Sun, the Worthing branch will relocate to the former Poundland unit on Montague Street, a short distance from the seafront and close to its existing location.

The switch means shoppers will face only a brief gap between the closure of the Montague Centre branch and the launch of the replacement store.

Once the new location opens, customers will again be able to shop for clothing, homeware, toys, beauty products, and other TK Maxx lines in central Worthing.

The former Poundland site has stood vacant since December 2025, when the discount retailer shut the branch. TK Maxx’s arrival will therefore bring a prominent empty retail space back into use.

The company had previously reassured shoppers that it intended to remain in Worthing town center after leaving its current premises.

The Move Could Reshape One of Worthing’s Main Shopping Streets

The relocation places TK Maxx directly on Montague Street, one of Worthing’s established retail routes.

Its current Montague Centre unit is now being marketed by commercial property agents, with the space listed as available from December 2026. That creates another sizable vacancy in the town center, although TK Maxx itself will continue trading nearby.

The move has attracted attention because large retail relocations can shift pedestrian traffic between shopping areas. In this case, the new store will occupy a unit that had remained unused for months.

Local residents responding to the plans on social media expressed optimism about the impact on Montague Street.

One resident said: “Good news is that TK Maxx is moving into former Poundland space. I think it will breath life into Montague street.”

Another wrote: “That’s cool.. It’ll make a huge difference to Montage street footfall”.

A third added: “That’ll make Montague Street more appealing.”

Their comments reflect hopes that a well-known national retailer could draw more shoppers along the street and support nearby businesses.

Worthing Council Leader Stresses Standards in the Town Center

The relocation comes as local officials continue to focus on the condition and appeal of Worthing’s central shopping areas.

Worthing Borough Council leader Caroline Baxter addressed the wider need to maintain a town center that offers a broad mix of shopping and retail opportunities while remaining attractive to residents and visitors.

“A consistent message has been the importance of maintaining a clean, welcoming and attractive environment,” she said.

“Taking pride in our town means looking after the places we share, from our streets and public spaces to our parks and seafront.”

Her comments place the TK Maxx move within a broader discussion about the quality and vitality of Worthing’s public and commercial spaces.

The new store’s location also gives the retailer a visible position close to the coast, linking one of the town’s better-known retail names with an area used by both local shoppers and visitors.

A Familiar Retailer Stays in Worthing Rather Than Leaving

For customers, the most significant detail is that this is a relocation rather than a permanent closure.

Retail closures across UK town centers often leave residents wondering whether major chains will return. In Worthing, TK Maxx has set out a clear timetable that keeps its presence in the town largely uninterrupted.

The existing branch will trade until November 8, while the new Montague Street location is scheduled to open four days later on November 12.

That quick turnaround also means the former Poundland unit will not require a prolonged period before returning to active retail use.

TK Maxx has operated from the Montague Centre for around 25 years, making the move a notable change for shoppers familiar with the current store. Its replacement location, though, remains within the same central retail district.

The outgoing 8,000-square-foot Montague Centre unit is listed as becoming available to new occupiers from December 2026.
