The British Heart Foundation has closed its furniture and electrical store in Brighton, marking another change for the charity’s UK high street network as dozens of other locations face possible closure.
The branch on London Road shut on Saturday, September 19, ending years of trading at a store that customers had described as a valued local destination.
Brighton Shop Ends Years Of Community Service
The closed store sold second-hand furniture, household goods and electrical items donated by members of the public. Beyond retail activity, the branch also provided opportunities for volunteers and supported the charity’s fundraising work.
According to The Sun, the closure is part of a wider plan by the British Heart Foundation, which has announced plans to close 87 stores across the UK by March 2027 following a review of its retail estate. The charity has also identified a further 63 stores as being at risk, with details of a second wave of changes still to be confirmed.
Mike Blackburn, regional manager at the British Heart Foundation, told The Argus: “We would like to say a huge heartfelt thank you to everyone in Brighton who has supported our BHF Home and Electrical shop over the years and helped us raise vital funds for cardiovascular research.”

Charity Retail Network Faces Major Changes
The British Heart Foundation, which has operated charity shops on British high streets since the late 1980s, is adjusting its store network as it reviews locations across the country.
The organisation runs hundreds of shops offering donated clothing, furniture and household products, with profits supporting its work in cardiovascular research and health initiatives.
The Brighton closure does not leave customers without a nearby option. Another British Heart Foundation store remains in the area for shoppers wishing to buy donated goods or support the charity through further contributions.

The announced closures affect locations in England, Scotland and Wales, covering both standard charity shops and larger furniture stores.
Branches listed for closure include sites in places such as Bath, Blackpool, Camden, Crawley, Durham, Hammersmith, Plymouth, Sunderland and Swansea.
The charity said the review of its estate is intended to shape its future retail presence, while the possible closure of another 63 locations remains under assessment.
The Brighton store’s final day marks the end of a local branch that connected shoppers, donors and volunteers through its community role. The British Heart Foundation confirmed that the London Road shop closed on Saturday, September 19.
