UK convenience chain One Stop has issued a product recall for one of its branded snacks after it was found to contain an undeclared allergen. The issue affects the Mature Cheddar & Red Onion Hand Cooked Crisps, sold in 150g bags, with specific best before dates in February 2026.
The alert was raised due to the presence of milk in the product, which is not stated on the packaging. This omission poses a potential health risk to individuals with a milk allergy or intolerance. The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has classified this as a safety concern and has advised consumers not to consume the product.
Allergen Not Declared on Label Triggers Health Warning
The crisps in question were removed from shelves after routine checks identified that milk was present in the product, despite not being listed among the ingredients. This oversight means that people with a milk allergy could inadvertently consume the product, potentially triggering allergic reactions.
According to the FSA, the recall covers packs with the following best before dates: 17 February 2026, 18 February 2026, and 23 February 2026. Each pack is sold in a 150g size, branded under the One Stop label.
A notice issued by the retailer reads: “We are recalling three date codes of One Stop Mature Cheddar & Red Onion Flavour Hand Cooked Crisps 150g as they may contain milk which is not declared on the label. Do not consume. Please return the affected products to store where a full refund will be given. No receipt is required.”
The FSA confirmed that allergy support organisations had been notified and that point-of-sale recall notices were displayed in all stores. One Stop, which operates more than 1,000 outlets across the UK, has apologised for the incident.
Consumer Advice and Industry Response
Shoppers who purchased the affected product are being asked to return it to any One Stop location for a full refund, regardless of whether a receipt is available. Customer service can be reached directly via 01543 363 133 for more information.
The incident adds to a growing list of recent recalls from major UK retailers. According to ChronicleLive, Tesco, TK Maxx, Next and Morrisons have also issued product recalls in recent weeks for various reasons, ranging from labelling errors to contamination concerns.
The recall highlights the ongoing importance of accurate labelling within the food industry, particularly where allergens are concerned. Milk is one of the 14 allergens that must legally be declared on food packaging in the UK. Allergic reactions to milk can vary in severity, but for some individuals they can be life-threatening. The FSA advises all consumers with a known allergy to carefully check labels and to stay updated on any recalls announced through its website.
