This financial aid is available to households in specific parts of the UK, such as Torbay, where the scheme has launched. Residents can qualify for the £100 payment if they are recipients of benefits such as Universal Credit, Pension Credit, or Employment and Support Allowance.

Those receiving Disability Living Allowance (DLA), Personal Independence Payments (PIP), and Attendance Allowance are also eligible. Additionally, households with dependent children can apply for the support. Pensioners receiving Council Tax Support but not Pension Credit can also apply.

One key detail is that each household is only entitled to a single £100 payment for the entire financial year. This limitation is designed to ensure that the funds can reach as many individuals and families as possible.

Application Process and Additional Support

Residents in Torbay can apply for the payment through their local council website, with an option for paper applications available at local libraries. Those who prefer not to apply digitally can make use of paper application forms. Furthermore, the council of Torbay is providing additional support through initiatives such as foodbanks and the Torbay Food Alliance, along with the support of six social supermarkets. This network aims to provide further assistance to residents who may need extra help with food and essentials.

While Torbay is one of the first areas to launch this program, other regions are also offering similar support under the Household Support Fund. For example, East Riding residents can apply for £425 if they have less than £1,000 in savings. As this fund is spread across all councils in England, residents are encouraged to check with their local council to see if similar support is available.

The article warns that the demand for these payments is expected to be very high. Applicants are advised to prepare for potential delays in processing, with a waiting time of up to six weeks for a decision on their application.
