The Halifax app will stop operating on 31 October, meaning account holders will need to use the Lloyds app to continue managing their accounts digitally. According to Halifax, customers will be guided through the process in stages and will receive invitations directly through the app and by email.

Customers Told to Move to the Lloyds App

The banking group has informed Halifax customers that the transfer process should only take a few steps. The Lloyds app will become the main digital platform for customers who previously used Halifax online banking, while existing account information will remain available.

According to the email sent to customers, the move will transfer accounts, scheduled payments, and letters and statements stored in digital inboxes. Halifax said customers do not need to take action until they receive an invitation to move across.

The bank has also explained that the method used to switch will affect the login process. Customers moving through the Lloyds app will have their login details automatically updated for Lloyds online banking. Those who move through Lloyds online banking on a computer first will need to set up their app login separately.

Lloyds has said its banking app should feel familiar for Halifax customers and that the changeover will be completed through a simple process. Once the Halifax app closes, customers will no longer be able to access their accounts through the old application.

The transition follows Lloyds Banking Group’s plans to bring Halifax under the Lloyds brand. Halifax customers will keep their account numbers and sort codes, while continuing to access services through Lloyds digital channels and branches.

Wider Changes Across Lloyds Banking Group

The closure of the Halifax app comes as the banking group continues to adjust its services as more customers use digital banking. According to figures cited by the Express, around 87% of UK adults now use at least one form of digital banking.

Lloyds Banking Group, which includes Lloyds, Halifax and Bank of Scotland, has also announced a programme of branch closures. The group is set to close at least 247 branches across 2026 and 2027, following the announcement of 79 additional closures.

The company said decisions on branch changes are based on several factors, including customer banking habits and the availability of nearby services. Customers who still require face-to-face banking can use Lloyds, Halifax and Bank of Scotland branches, as well as banking hubs operated by the Post Office.

According to a Lloyds Banking Group spokesperson, more than 21 million customers are already using its apps to manage their money. The group said it aims to combine digital services with access to people and physical banking locations.

Jas Singh, CEO of Consumer Relations at Lloyds, said Halifax customers would keep the services they currently use while gaining access to Lloyds products and digital developments. The bank said resources would be directed towards improving technology, savings products and customer programmes.

For Halifax customers, the immediate change is the move from one banking application to another. The Halifax app will remain available during the transition period before its final closure at the end of October.
