The UK has confirmed its 2027 bank holiday calendar, with the Christmas Day and Boxing Day holidays moving to substitute weekdays after both dates fall on a weekend.
Workers in England and Wales will observe eight official bank holidays in 2027, including replacement holidays on Monday, December 27, and Tuesday, December 28, instead of the traditional Christmas dates.
Christmas Weekend Clash Changes The 2027 Holiday Schedule
The change follows the UK system for handling bank holidays that fall on Saturdays or Sundays. When a public holiday lands on a weekend, a weekday replacement is assigned so employees still receive the official holiday entitlement.
According to OK Magazine, the Christmas and Boxing Day bank holidays will “move” in 2027 because December 25 falls on a Saturday and December 26 falls on a Sunday. The publication noted that “substitute” bank holidays will take place on December 27 and December 28.
The arrangement means the final bank holidays of the year will create a different festive schedule for millions of workers across the UK.
