Energy supplier EDF is giving households six hours of free electricity on Sunday, 10 August, alongside a £100 discount on its new 12‑month fixed tariff. The move aims to help families manage rising energy bills during the school holidays while encouraging smarter energy use.
The offer comes under the company’s Sunday Saver Scheme, which has already provided millions of kilowatt-hours of free electricity to customers. By signing up before 11:59pm on 9 August, households can access this benefit and potentially reduce their overall energy expenditure.
Six Hours of Free Electricity for Registered Customers
According to EDF, eligible households will be able to enjoy six hours of free electricity credited to their accounts around a week after the event. This is available exclusively to customers with a working smart meter who have opted into half-hourly readings.
EDF’s director of retail, Rich Hughes, said: “We know the school holidays can be full-on, so we’re excited to give families a little energy boost on us. Customers will have six hours of free electricity to power their summer fun, whether it’s a family bake off, karaoke session or movie marathon, all while tackling the never-ending laundry pile.”
The Sunday Saver initiative rewards households that shift electricity use away from weekday peak hours, which the company has identified as between 4pm and 7pm. Participants in previous events, including the June and July challenges, are automatically enrolled for this upcoming offer. Those who have not yet joined must register by the deadline to benefit.
Cheapest 12‑Month Tariff Among Major Suppliers
Alongside the free electricity event, EDF has introduced what it describes as the lowest-priced 12‑month energy-only tariff among major UK suppliers. The “simply fixed aug26v5” deal is priced at £1,620 annually for an average dual fuel customer paying by direct debit. This represents a £100 reduction compared with the current energy price cap of £1,720, according to EDF.
The company said that households participating in the Sunday Saver Scheme could save even more if they combine the offer with the new tariff. So far, the initiative has delivered over 9.3 million kWh of free electricity, equivalent to 5.4 million hours, collectively helping customers cut approximately £2.33 million from their energy bills.
Households interested in this promotion can register for the Sunday Saver Scheme through EDF’s website. Those who sign up by 9 August can benefit from both the free electricity offer and the reduced fixed tariff, making it a potentially significant opportunity for families looking to offset summer holiday energy costs.
