The recall covers two Asda pasta salads and one Morrisons product sold in England, Scotland and Wales. Food manufacturer Greencore is recalling the products as a precaution, while retailers are displaying notices in stores explaining which batches are affected and what customers should do.

According to the Food Standards Agency, the three products may contain Listeria monocytogenes, a bacterium that can cause listeriosis. The infection is usually associated with contaminated food and can produce symptoms resembling flu, though in some cases it can lead to more serious illness.

Three Specific Pasta Products Are Affected by the Recall

The recall applies only to three identified products, each with a specific pack size, product code and use-by date. No other products or date codes were listed as affected in the recall information provided. The first is Asda Cheese & Tomato Pasta Salad in a 300g pack. The affected product carries the code 5063089221990 and has a use-by date of 10 August 2026.

The second Asda item is Nacho Cheese Pasta Salad, sold in a 500g pack. Its product code is 5063717198311, and the affected packs have a use-by date of 9 August 2026. Morrisons Chicken and Bacon Pasta is also included. The affected product comes in a 300g pack, carries the code 5010251790587 and has a use-by date of 7 August 2026.

According to the recall notice reported by The Independent, customers who have bought any of these products should not eat them. They are instead advised to return the food to their nearest store, where a full refund will be provided without the need for a receipt. Point-of-sale notices are being displayed at shops selling the products. These notices explain why the items are being recalled and provide instructions for customers who may have purchased them.

Listeriosis Can Cause Flu-Like Symptoms and Serious Complications

Listeriosis is an infection caused by listeria bacteria and is commonly linked to contaminated food. According to the NHS information cited by The Independent, the infection is rare and usually goes away on its own, although it can make some people seriously ill.

Symptoms linked to Listeria monocytogenes can include a high temperature, muscle aches or pain, chills, nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea. These symptoms may resemble those caused by flu.

In rare cases, the infection can become more severe. The Food Standards Agency says complications can include meningitis, while reports on the recall also note that severe listeria infections can be fatal.

Some groups face a greater risk from listeria infection. Those identified as more vulnerable include people over the age of 65, pregnant women and their unborn babies, babies younger than one month old and people with weakened immune systems. The current advice remains limited to the three specified pasta products and their listed date codes. Customers in possession of one of the affected packs are being asked not to consume it and to return it to the relevant supermarket for a refund.
