The UK government has launched its Jobs Guarantee programme, with the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) funding up to 25 hours a week of paid work for six months for people who have been out of employment for long periods.
The scheme aims to create more than 90,000 fully funded jobs by 2029, offering young people a route into employment while helping businesses access new workers.
Government Scheme Targets Long-Term Unemployment
According to Birmingham Live the Jobs Guarantee is designed for people furthest from the labour market and provides employers with support to create paid positions. Taxpayer funding will cover wages for the first six months of each role.
The programme has received backing from major employers, including Boots and OCS, as the government seeks to connect young people with workplace experience and longer-term career opportunities.

Work and Pensions Secretary Pat McFadden said: “Young people want to get on in life but for too long too many have been denied that opportunity. The Jobs Guarantee helps change that.
“Seeing the first young people start their roles brings to life what this scheme is about: real jobs, proper wages, and a genuine route into a career.
“As we roll this out to tens of thousands more young people across the country, we’re backing the next generation to succeed and backing British businesses to grow with the talent they need.”
The first roles mark the beginning of a wider rollout that the government expects to expand across the UK.

The programme is being delivered with support from employers and organisations working with young people seeking employment.
