Thousands of supermarkets across the UK will close earlier during the August Bank Holiday, with major retailers including Aldi, Lidl, Asda and M&S adjusting opening hours for shoppers.
Customers planning their grocery trips are being advised to check individual store schedules before heading out, as opening times will vary depending on location and retailer.
Supermarkets Announce Holiday Opening Changes
According to The Sun, several of the UK’s biggest supermarket chains have confirmed reduced hours for the bank holiday period, with many large stores shutting earlier than usual.
Aldi stores in England and Wales will open from 8am and close at 8pm on the bank holiday. Branches in Scotland and Northern Ireland will keep their normal operating schedules.
Lidl will also reduce hours at many locations, with most stores in England and Wales closing at 8pm. Stores in London and Scotland are expected to operate under their usual schedules.
Asda customers in England and Wales will generally see stores operating between 8am and 10pm. Asda Express locations will continue operating for 24 hours or follow their normal closing times.

Opening Times Vary Across Major Retailers
Other supermarket groups are also making adjustments for the bank holiday.
M&S stores will mostly run reduced hours, with many locations closing between 6pm and 8pm. Customers visiting larger branches are encouraged to confirm times before travelling.
Larger Morrisons supermarkets in England and Wales will usually close at 8pm during the bank holiday, while Morrisons Daily convenience stores will maintain their standard hours.
Most larger Sainsbury’s supermarkets will open from 7am and close at 10pm, one hour earlier than some normal schedules. Smaller Sainsbury’s Local stores are expected to keep regular opening times.
Tesco And Waitrose Confirm Store Differences
Tesco has confirmed that bank holiday schedules will depend on individual locations. Many larger stores and large Tesco Express branches in England and Wales will close earlier at 6pm.
There will be regional differences across the UK. Stores on the Isle of Man are expected to open from 7am to 10pm, while large Express stores in Scotland will operate from 7am to 10pm. Most large stores and large Express locations in Northern Ireland will remain open as normal.
Smaller Tesco Express stores are generally expected to keep their usual hours.
Waitrose locations will mostly operate shorter schedules, with many stores closing at 6pm. Little Waitrose convenience stores will typically follow their normal opening hours.
