The company launched in 2016 and built its business around independently minded travellers seeking different types of package holidays. It had previously been recognised by the Sunday Times Best 100 Holidays in its first full season and later received two British Travel Award nominations, but the company has now confirmed that it will not organise any further holidays.
Firefly Holidays Stops Taking Bookings after Voluntary Liquidation
According to The Gazette, a voluntary winding-up order was agreed on 7 August, with Stephen Mark Powell of BTG Begbies Traynor appointed as liquidator. The move means Firefly Holidays has formally entered liquidation and is no longer accepting new bookings. The company acknowledged the closure directly on its website. “After 10 fantastic years, Firefly Holidays is no longer taking bookings,” its statement said.
It added: “It’s been our absolute honour to help our customers experience amazing holidays and award-winning adventures. Now the Firefly team are taking our own road trip towards new destinations.”
The company also said it remained willing to answer travel-related questions. “Although Firefly Holidays is no longer taking bookings, we’re happy to help valued customers and new contacts with any travel questions and advice,” the website statement said.
According to the company’s LinkedIn page, Firefly Holidays was founded by a management team with extensive experience in UK and overseas holidays. The business said it had been created to provide the sort of contemporary holiday experiences that customers were seeking but which, in its view, established operators had not been delivering. Its social media activity had included promotions for trips to Croatia, the Alps and Guadeloupe, among other destinations.
Closure Adds to a Wider List of UK Travel Company Failures in 2026
Firefly Holidays is one of several UK-based travel businesses to have closed, ceased trading or entered administration during 2026. Other companies named among this year’s closures include Regen Central Ltd, Gold Crest Holidays, Asiara UK Ltd, Simply Florida Travel Ltd, Salamander Voyages, Trav Expert Ltd, Strachan Travel Ltd, Travel Bespoke Ltd, Groupia Ltd, Global Vision International, Ski Yodl and TS Travels Group.
The travel sector has also seen a number of airline failures during the year. Four UK airlines have entered administration or liquidation: Ascend Airways and EcoJet Airlines went into liquidation, while Zenith Aviation Limited and European Cargo entered administration.
Firefly Holidays had itself referred to the difficult trading environment it faced shortly after launch. According to its LinkedIn page, the company began operating in 2016 amid challenges including Brexit, falling exchange rates and terror attacks in Europe. The same company profile said Firefly Holidays had nevertheless built a strong following, with 99% of surveyed customers saying they would be happy to book again. Its liquidation now closes a 10-year period of trading and leaves the company no longer taking bookings, with the winding-up process under the control of its appointed liquidator.
