The alert affects customers with a cashew allergy or intolerance, as consuming the product may present a health risk. The recalled ice cream is a 300g tub with a best-before date of 8 December 2027, according to information released by food safety authorities.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) said the product contains cashew nuts that are not correctly listed on the packaging, meaning it may pose a risk to people who are allergic to cashews. The agency advised customers who have purchased the affected product not to eat it and to return it to the store where it was bought for a full refund.

Food Safety Authorities Issue Recall over Missing Allergen Information

The recall was issued after it was discovered that the ice cream could contain cashews in addition to the pistachios already identified as an ingredient. According to the Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI), the affected batch “may contain nuts (cashew nuts) which is not declared in the list of ingredients”.

The FSAI stated that the batch may be unsafe for consumers who are allergic to or intolerant of cashew nuts. The organisation confirmed that the affected batch is being recalled from sale.

Lidl’s own notice explained that the recall was due to the presence of cashews that were not declared in the ingredient list. The supermarket advised customers with a cashew allergy or intolerance not to consume the product and said they could return it to a Lidl store for a refund, with or without a receipt.

Point-of-sale notices are being displayed in stores selling the product to inform customers about the reason for the recall and the steps they should take. Lidl also apologised for the inconvenience caused and provided customer service contact numbers for shoppers seeking further information. The recalled product details are:

  • Product: 1001 Delights Dubai Style Pistachio Ice Cream Pistachio Flavour & Chocolate
  • Pack size: 300g
  • Best-before date: 8 December 2027

Recall Follows Other Recent Food Safety Alerts Involving Lidl Products

The ice cream recall comes after another Lidl-related food safety warning issued earlier in July. Two ham products sold in Northern Ireland were recalled because of the possible presence of Listeria monocytogenes.

According to the Food Standards Agency, infections caused by Listeria monocytogenes can produce symptoms including fever, muscle pain, chills, nausea and diarrhoea. In some cases, the infection can lead to more serious complications.

The affected ham products were Deluxe Honey Roast Carved Irish Ham and Deluxe Triple Oak Smoked Carved Irish Ham, both sold in 130g packs with a use-by date of 16 July 2026.

Food safety agencies regularly issue recalls when products may contain undeclared allergens or other risks to consumers. In this case, the Lidl ice cream recall specifically concerns people who may experience an allergic reaction after consuming cashews that were not identified on the label. Customers who have bought the affected ice cream and have a cashew allergy or intolerance are advised not to eat the product and to return it to Lidl for a refund.
