The UK is bracing for a widespread rainstorm on Monday, with the Met Office forecasting heavy downpours across 25 counties. Changeable conditions and gusty winds are expected to make travel and outdoor activities difficult.

Widespread Rain Hits Northern and Western Counties

The wettest conditions are set to affect South Wales, Somerset, and the West Midlands during this morning. Meteorologists indicate that rainfall in these regions could reach 16 millimeters per hour. The storm system will also cover southwest England, the East of England, and northwest England, while Scotland and Northern Ireland will experience lighter showers.

By midday, rain will spread into London, the southeast, and the East of England. Meanwhile, areas such as Wales, Devon, Cornwall, and the West Midlands are expected to see conditions improve slightly. By the afternoon, the heaviest rainfall will have moved east, leaving persistent but lighter showers in parts of eastern England.

Met Office Advice for Residents

Chris Bulmer, Chief Meteorologist at the Met Office, warned that the UK will experience a mix of sunshine and showers over the next few days. He added that a more organized rain system, accompanied by stronger winds, could affect the country over the weekend, although it is expected to weaken as it moves east.

Residents are advised to monitor weather updates closely, dress appropriately, and plan travel carefully to avoid disruption. Ground that is already saturated from recent rain could experience localized flooding, and drivers should remain vigilant during periods of heavy rainfall.

Counties Forecast to See Rain

The 25 counties expected to face rain include Glamorgan, Monmouthshire, Carmarthenshire, Pembrokeshire, and Ceredigion. In England, the counties of Cornwall, Devon, Somerset, Herefordshire, Worcestershire, Shropshire, Staffordshire, Cheshire, Greater Manchester, Merseyside, Lancashire, Cumbria, North Yorkshire, West Yorkshire, and South Yorkshire are all predicted to experience downpours.

In northern regions, County Durham and Northumberland will be affected, while in Scotland, Dumfries and Galloway, the Scottish Borders, and South Lanarkshire will also see rainfall.

Outlook for the Rest of the Week

The Met Office expects the weather to remain unsettled throughout the week. Sunshine and showers are likely to alternate, and although a weaker rain system may arrive during the weekend, most areas will experience lighter and more intermittent rainfall. Residents should prepare for ongoing wet conditions and adjust travel and outdoor plans accordingly, keeping safety in mind as gusty winds accompany showers in certain areas.
