A recall has been issued for a Maxi-Cosi baby car seat base after a fault was identified with a safety indicator that could give users incorrect information about whether a seat is properly attached. The issue has prompted warnings that the seat could move or detach from its base, creating a risk of injury to children.

The recall affects FamilyFix Slide Pro bases manufactured between September 2025 and March 2026. Owners have been advised to stop using the product immediately while checks are carried out to determine whether their unit is affected.

The alert was published by the Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS), which said the product does not meet the requirements of the General Product Safety Regulations 2005. Maxi-Cosi has described the action as a voluntary recall and said it was initiated following the identification of a potential safety issue during testing.

Faulty Indicator May Show Seat Is Secure When It Is Not

According to the Office for Product Safety and Standards, the concern centres on a visual indicator designed to show whether a child car seat has been correctly fitted to the FamilyFix Slide Pro base. The OPSS said the indicator may display a green signal even when the car seat is not fully attached. As a result, users could believe the seat has been installed correctly when it has not.

The regulator warned that this could cause the seat to move or detach from the base, potentially leading to injuries for the child occupant. The recall notice also advises consumers to stop using the product immediately.

The affected products were manufactured in China between 6 September 2025 and 24 March 2026. According to Maxi-Cosi, customers can check whether their product is included in the recall by entering the model reference number and manufacturing date on the company’s website. The manufacturing date can be found on a white label located on the underside of the base. Maxi-Cosi said the reference number should contain 10 digits.

Manufacturer Says Issue Was Identified during User Testing

Maxi-Cosi said the recall followed a recent user test conducted as part of its efforts to improve ease of use. According to the company, the testing identified what it described as a “potential misuse scenario” involving the visual indicator on the FamilyFix base.

In a statement published on its website, the manufacturer said: “Your child’s safety drives every decision we make at Maxi-Cosi, and in keeping with our deep dedication to you and your family, we want to make you aware of a voluntary recall affecting your product.”

The company added that it had initiated the recall as part of its commitment to child safety, product quality and ease of use.

The recall has also prompted concern from consumer groups. According to comments reported by PA Media, Sue Davies, head of consumer protection policy at Which?, described the situation as “incredibly concerning” because of the possibility that the seat could move or detach during use.

Davies urged affected consumers to use the manufacturer’s online checking tool and stop using any recalled product immediately. She also said Maxi-Cosi and its suppliers should investigate how the issue occurred and ensure safeguards are in place to prevent potentially unsafe products reaching consumers in the future.

The recall remains in effect for all affected FamilyFix Slide Pro bases manufactured within the specified period. Owners are being advised to verify their product details and follow the guidance provided by Maxi-Cosi.
