A major UK health and beauty retailer has recalled 15 perfume products after prohibited chemicals linked to reproductive health concerns were identified in the items. The affected fragrances were sold through Savers Health and Beauty stores across the country.

According to the retailer’s recall notice, the products contain butylphenyl methylpropional (BMHCA, also known as lilial), hydroxyisohexyl 3-cyclohexene carboxaldehyde, or a combination of both substances. The chemicals are banned from use in cosmetic products under UK regulations.

The recall affects a range of fragrances from several international brands, including Calvin Klein, Jean Paul Gaultier, Kenzo, Davidoff, and Rihanna. Customers have been advised to stop using the products and return them for a refund.

The action follows concerns that the substances may pose risks to human health. Savers stated that the ingredients “may harm the reproductive system, the health of an unborn child, and may cause skin sensitisation.”

Retailer Issues Nationwide Recall Across Multiple Fragrance Brands

According to Savers Health and Beauty, all affected products have been removed from sale and recalled from end users. The retailer specified that only items purchased from Savers stores and matching the listed barcodes are included in the recall.

The products named in the notice include Ben Sherman Gold 100ml Eau De Toilette, Beyonce Rise 30ml Eau De Toilette, Calvin Klein Encounter 30ml Eau De Toilette, CK One 50ml Eau De Toilette, and Coolwater Ladies Eau De Toilette 30ml.

Other recalled fragrances include Davidoff Hot Water in both 110ml and 60ml sizes, FCUK 3 Female 100ml Eau De Toilette Spray, FCUK Original Her Eau De Toilette 100ml, and Jean Paul Gaultier Classique 50ml Eau De Toilette.

Kenzo Flowers 50ml Eau De Toilette, Missguided Babe Power EDP 10ml Boxed, Paul Smith Men 100ml Eau De Toilette, Rihanna Kiss 100ml Eau De Toilette, and Thierry Mugler Secret 50ml Eau De Toilette were also listed in the recall notice.

According to the published information, the affected fragrances failed to meet the requirements of The Cosmetics Regulation. Savers instructed customers to return the items to their original place of purchase to receive a full refund. The retailer also directed customers seeking more information to contact its support service through the company’s official email address.

Banned Cosmetic Ingredients Linked to Health Concerns

The recall centers on two substances prohibited in cosmetics regulation: butylphenyl methylpropional and hydroxyisohexyl 3-cyclohexene carboxaldehyde. According to the recall notice, both chemicals were identified in the affected products.

BMHCA, commonly referred to as lilial, has faced regulatory scrutiny in recent years over concerns related to reproductive toxicity. The second substance, hydroxyisohexyl 3-cyclohexene carboxaldehyde, has also been associated with allergic skin reactions and sensitization risks.

Savers described the issue as a “serious chemical risk” in its warning to consumers. The company stated that the products may affect reproductive health and could harm unborn children if exposure occurs over time. The retailer did not announce any reports of illness or injury connected to the fragrances. The notice focused instead on compliance with cosmetics regulations and precautionary product removal.

According to the recall details, the products were identified through their barcode numbers, allowing customers to verify whether their purchase is included. Savers emphasized that only the specified items are affected by the recall.
