The Post Office has launched a new travel credit card aimed at holidaymakers, offering overseas spending without foreign transaction fees and six months of interest-free purchases. The product is part of the organisation’s broader effort to expand its financial services business across the UK.
Customers using the card will also avoid cash advance fees when purchasing Post Office Travel Money, a feature designed to appeal to people travelling abroad. According to the Post Office, the card is available exclusively online and comes with no annual fee.
The launch arrives as the Post Office continues to broaden its banking and lending operations through its Transformation Programme. The organisation said the initiative is intended to increase revenue while supporting postmasters and local branches across the country.
At the same time, the card carries a representative 34.9 per cent variable APR, meaning borrowers who do not repay balances within the initial interest-free period could face substantial interest charges.
New Card Targets Overseas Spending and Travel Money Purchases
The Post Office said the new Travel Credit Card allows customers to spend abroad and shop online with overseas retailers without paying foreign transaction fees. According to reports, the card also includes six months of interest-free purchases from the date the account is opened.
One of the card’s main features is the removal of cash advance fees when customers use it to buy Post Office Travel Money. In many cases, credit card providers charge additional fees when cards are used to withdraw or obtain cash, while interest may begin accruing immediately.
Under the new arrangement, customers purchasing foreign currency through the Post Office with the travel credit card will avoid those charges. According to GB News, many providers typically charge around two per cent of the amount withdrawn when cash advances are made.
Sean Morley, head of financial services at the Post Office, said the organisation wanted to introduce features that customers “really value”. “We’re thrilled to launch our new Travel Credit Card, packed with benefits we know customers really value,” Morley said. “With features like no foreign transaction fees and no cash advance fees on Travel Money bought from Post Office, it truly stands out in a competitive market.”
Applications for the card are only available online, and the product joins the Post Office’s existing range of savings products, personal loans and other credit cards.

Launch Forms Part of Wider Financial Services Expansion
According to the Post Office, the travel credit card is the first new financial services product introduced by the organisation this year. The launch forms part of its wider Transformation Programme, which aims to strengthen support for postmasters while increasing revenue streams.
The organisation returned to the personal loans market last year through a partnership with lending platform Lendable. The Post Office indicated that additional banking and financial products are expected to be introduced over the coming months. Morley said expanding financial services would help generate income for communities and branch operators across the UK.
“By expanding our range of financial services, we’re not only helping customers get more from their money but also generating income that supports postmasters and communities across the UK,” he said.
The Post Office currently operates more than 11,500 branches nationwide. According to the organisation, this network is larger than the combined total of banks and building societies in the UK. The organisation also said almost the entire UK population lives within three miles of a Post Office branch, while around 4,000 locations operate seven days a week.
