Nationwide Building Society has provided an update on its bonus incentives for customers, revealing that, currently, no new offers are available. The statement follows a social media enquiry about potential rewards for switching bank accounts. Previously, the building society had offered bonuses such as a £200 cash reward for account switches, but there are no active incentives at present.
Nationwide’s past bonus schemes have been particularly popular, with the £200 switch incentive and other loyalty bonuses contributing to its reputation. These payments were made to encourage customers to switch to one of Nationwide’s accounts, such as FlexDirect, FlexAccount, or FlexPlus. Customers have also received other forms of compensation, including the Fairer Share Payment, a token of appreciation for long-term loyalty.
No Current Incentives for Switching Accounts
Nationwide has clarified that there are no ongoing promotions to switch accounts at this moment. Responding to a social media query from a potential new customer, the building society confirmed that any future offers will be publicly announced on its website. According to Nationwide, once an incentive is available, it will be prominently displayed for customers to take advantage of. This follows the pattern set earlier in the year, when customers switching accounts could receive up to £200 in cash.
The £200 switch incentive was part of an initiative to attract new customers and retain existing ones. This followed other recent rewards, such as a £100 payment distributed to four million members during the third round of Nationwide’s Fairer Share Payment in June and July. Additionally, members received a £50 payment as part of the Big Nationwide Thank You after the building society’s successful acquisition of Virgin Money.
Recent Loyalty Bonuses and Key Takeaways
While the absence of a bank-switching incentive might be disappointing to some, Nationwide’s ongoing loyalty bonuses have provided some relief for its members. The £100 payments earlier in the year were part of a wider strategy to reward loyal customers. According to Nationwide, these payments are part of its commitment to providing fairer treatment for members, something the building society emphasises as a key part of its mutual status.
Beyond account-switching offers, Nationwide also encourages customers to stay informed about the latest updates on taxes relating to savings. Recent guidance from HMRC has clarified the rules on tax-free interest earnings.
Basic rate taxpayers can earn up to £1,000 in interest before it becomes taxable, while higher-rate taxpayers face a £500 limit. Those in the additional-rate bracket, however, must pay tax on all interest earnings. This information is crucial for savers looking to maximise their interest and avoid potential pitfalls during the tax year.
