As families across the UK prepare for the upcoming school year, the rising cost of uniforms continues to place financial pressure on parents and carers. For many, the need to replace outgrown or worn-out clothing adds up quickly, particularly in households with multiple children.

In response to this recurring challenge, a charity-led initiative in Cannock is offering a low-cost alternative aimed at easing the burden. Combining affordability with social impact, the scheme not only supports local families, but also channels funding into vital services for children with disabilities.

Uniform Basics for £1 in Back-To-School Campaign

The Cannock Superstore of Newlife, located on Hemlock Way, will open its doors for the event on Monday 11 August, with all school uniform items available for £1 each. According to Newlife, every piece in the sale is brand new, donated by high street retailers and made available to the public on a first come, first served basis.

The sale includes basic schoolwear items such as trousers, skirts and shirts, which are typically required in multiples over the course of a school year. In addition, shoppers purchasing five or more uniform items in one transaction will receive one item free, according to the charity.

The timing of the sale addresses a known seasonal financial burden. Preparing children for the new term can be a major expense, especially for families with more than one school-aged child. Items often need to be replaced due to wear, loss or children outgrowing their sizes between terms.

Carole Simpson, Director of Retail and Sustainability at Newlife, said: “We know how tough it can be for parents and carers when it comes to stocking up on school uniform basics, and how quickly children can go through them, so this is a really great opportunity to stock up on the basics you need for the autumn term.”

Charity Proceeds to Fund Specialist Equipment for Disabled Children

While the sale is primarily aimed at easing the financial strain on families, its wider social impact lies in the funding it provides. All proceeds from the school uniform sale will go directly towards Newlife’s services for children and young people with disabilities.

According to the charity, Newlife spends around £3.6 million per year delivering specialist equipment and services to families across the UK. It is currently recognised as the largest charitable provider of its kind nationwide, with more than 30 years of experience.

The school uniform sale is part of the charity’s broader efforts to combine retail activities with social impact. By repurposing surplus stock donated by retailers, Newlife is able to address both environmental waste and community need, simultaneously creating access and funding support.
