The retailers reduce costs on groceries, beverages and seasonal goods as affordability remains a focus for U.S. shoppers. Walmart and Sam’s Club have announced price reductions on thousands of products across stores and online platforms, including fresh food, household supplies and summer merchandise. The retailers said the cuts are designed to help customers manage spending during the summer season, when many families buy items for cookouts, vacations and other activities.

The announcement comes as consumers continue to focus on household costs after several years of elevated inflation. Walmart has presented the reductions as part of its broader low-price strategy, while President Donald Trump said the move followed a request from his administration.

Price Cuts Target Groceries, Beverages and Summer Essentials

The reductions cover multiple categories, including fresh produce, meat, snacks, drinks, outdoor products, apparel and household goods. According to Walmart, the discounts are available in stores, on Walmart.com, through the Walmart app, and at Sam’s Club locations and online platforms.

Among the listed price changes, Walmart lowered the price of a 1 lb. package of fresh 73% ground beef rolls from $6.74 to $5.94. Fresh sweet corn on the cob was reduced from $0.68 each to $0.25, while a 2.25 lb. bag of fresh red cherries dropped from $11.18 to $5.63.

The company also reduced prices on several beverage products. According to CBS News, Coca-Cola, Diet Coke and Coca-Cola Zero Sugar 24-packs were cut from $14.97 to $9.97, while Pepsi, Diet Pepsi, Dr. Pepper and Diet Mountain Dew 24-packs were reduced from $13.97 to $9.97.

Other discounted items include Great Value ice cream, Lay’s Classic Potato Chips, Frito-Lay snack variety packs and disposable paper plates. Walmart said the lower prices would continue throughout the summer as shoppers prepare for seasonal events and the back-to-school period.

Sam’s Club is also offering discounts on more than 250 products. The warehouse retailer highlighted items such as Member’s Mark bone-in chicken wings, reduced from $2.88 per pound to $2.00 per pound, and Member’s Mark beef hot dogs, lowered from $12.96 to $10.86.

Trump Praises Discounts While Walmart Focuses on Affordability Strategy

President Donald Trump highlighted the price reductions in a social media post, saying Walmart introduced the cuts at his administration’s request to mark the country’s 250th birthday. He specifically mentioned the reduction in ground beef prices and encouraged other retailers to follow Walmart’s approach.

Walmart’s public announcement did not mention the administration’s involvement. According to CBS News, Walmart declined to comment on Trump’s statement, while its spokesperson said the price reductions had already taken effect the previous week.

The move has drawn attention as affordability remains a major issue for consumers and policymakers. According to Vital Knowledge analyst Adam Crisafulli, the price cuts benefit both Walmart’s reputation for low prices and Trump’s messaging on household costs.

Walmart has increasingly emphasized value pricing as it seeks to attract shoppers looking for lower costs. The company said the current reductions are focused on everyday necessities and seasonal purchases, including food, outdoor living products and household items.

The retailers’ summer discounts will remain available through their stores, websites and apps, giving customers access to lower prices across a range of products during the seasonal shopping period.
