Medical equipment provider Numotion has agreed to a $4 million settlement following a class action lawsuit tied to two separate data breaches that occurred in March and September 2024. The incidents allegedly exposed sensitive customer information, including Social Security numbers, prompting legal claims that the company had failed to implement adequate security protocols to protect its patients’ data.
The settlement represents one of the more notable data breach resolutions in the medical equipment sector in recent years. Despite agreeing to the payout, Numotion has not admitted any wrongdoing, opting instead to resolve the matter out of court rather than face a prolonged legal proceeding.
Who Is Eligible and What Can They Claim?
Eligibility for compensation is specifically tied to customers who received an official notification from Numotion informing them that their personal information may have been compromised in either the March or September 2024 breaches. According to reports, those affected can claim up to $15,000 in reimbursement for documented out-of-pocket expenses directly linked to the breaches, costs that may include identity theft recovery, fraud-related damages, legal advice, or account restoration services.
Beyond expense reimbursement, claimants may also be entitled to a pro-rata cash payment, the final amount of which will depend on the total volume of approved claims submitted. All eligible class members are entitled to two years of free credit monitoring through CyEx Identity Defence Plus. Those whose Social Security numbers were potentially exposed receive an additional benefit: two further years of specialized medical monitoring through CyEx Medical Shield Pro.
To support a claim, applicants are required to submit documentation demonstrating their losses, receipts, invoices, or similar proof of purchase that establish the financial impact they experienced as a result of the breach.
A Narrow Window Remains Before the Deadline
While the final court hearing to formally ratify the settlement is scheduled for April 2, the deadline for affected individuals to submit a valid claim form falls significantly earlier, on Wednesday, March 18. According to the settlement terms, any claim filed after that date will not be considered, making the coming days a critical period for anyone who has yet to act.
The urgency is particularly acute given the scale of the alleged breaches and the number of customers who may have been affected. The settlement covers all individuals who received breach notification letters from Numotion regarding either of the two 2024 incidents, a group that potentially spans thousands of customers across the country.
For those who qualify, the compensation package is notably comprehensive, combining direct financial reimbursements with multi-year monitoring services designed to mitigate ongoing risks from identity theft. Whether or not claimants can demonstrate specific out-of-pocket losses, the free credit and medical monitoring benefits are available to all eligible class members automatically upon claim approval. Anyone who believes they may qualify is urged to file a claim form before the March 18 deadline, ensuring all supporting documentation is included to avoid disqualification.
