Reser’s Fine Foods has initiated a voluntary recall of various tuna salad products after concerns over potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. This contamination risk is linked to breadcrumbs found in some of the affected products, sold in multiple US states.
The recall, which impacts stores across seven states, has drawn attention due to the health risks posed by Listeria, a bacteria that can cause severe foodborne illnesses, particularly in vulnerable populations. The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a warning, advising consumers to dispose of or return the products.

Health Risks and FDA Recommendations
Listeria monocytogenes is a serious pathogen that can lead to listeriosis, a potentially fatal infection. According to the FDA, Listeria is one of the leading causes of death from foodborne illness in the United States, responsible for approximately 260 fatalities annually.
The bacteria pose a particular risk to vulnerable groups such as the elderly, pregnant women, young children, and individuals with weakened immune systems.
In response to the recall, the FDA has issued several safety measures. Consumers are urged to either discard the affected products or return them for a full refund. Furthermore, the FDA stresses the importance of sanitising surfaces that may have come into contact with the recalled products, as Listeria can survive in refrigerated environments and spread easily.
Although no illnesses have been reported thus far, the risk remains high, and consumers are advised to stay vigilant. For any further information or concerns, the FDA recommends contacting the relevant customer service centres.
